Pity the $$$ spent on their website and brochures weren't directed to the actual goods. Fortunately just spent 2 nights at this highly overcrowded and over-rated RV Park & Marina in Black Creek on Vancouver Island. RV sites are not graded, difficult to open your awnings without running into your neighbour's RV. The only decent sites are across from the marina and most of these were booked for long term residents. The "heated pool" is very small and was filled to capacity with screaming children - oh yes, a banner draped on the fence enclosure stipulated "Adults Only" from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. One other interesting note - the only thing the office staff mentionned when we checked in was to be sure we kept things locked at all times - now there's a comforting welcome!! International RV Park - not by our definition. From our experience and other folks we spoke with that actually did have a nice RV site across from the marina, this place appears to be more suited to families with children.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property - you are absolutely right we do cater to families! Children of all ages have a wonderful time here. Our "aduly only" section has 29 sites It is available to short term as well as seasonal guests and provides the peace and quiet that other folks desire.

As mentioned to other reviewers, because our property is very large with 201 RV Sites, 20 Cottages and 140 boat slips and with direct access to and from the Oyster River as well as the ocean and Saratoga Beach we feel the best policy is always to advise our guests to secure their belongings. With such a large property it just makes sense.

Happy Travels!

We stayed for the may long weekend which was extreemly busy. the sites are close together and could be a bit more private however it makes for a very family oriented atmosphere. the location is spectacular. brand new boat morage being built to replace older one. great little cabins right on the river. nice heated pool. the management were very accomidating and very friendly. they have one of the nicest sandy beaches. thanks so much for an amazing time. cant wait to come back

Room Tip: never stayed in the cabins but they looked very cute and cozy. d14 was a great site for camping:)

We headed up there for the Easter Long weekend. Our cabin was a cozy 2 bedroom with all the amenities. The cottage was a little bit of cozy including a fire pit on the banks of the Oyster river. We also had a nice deck and pic nic bench. The weather was great and the moon at night was huge. The views of the mountains above the ocean are breathtaking. The pool was closed for the season but there was also laundromat, firewood to purchase and a store in the summer time. The kids playground brought lots of laughter. There is a big open field for tossing/kicking the ball around or just bring out the lawn chairs and have a social. So great to be outdoors. As well as the cabins are RV sites with power, pic nic benches and fire pits. Its nice to have the option to swim in the ocean or the Oyster River or the swimming pool in the summer time. Moorage for your boat and a boat launch are also there as well and yes there is great fishing. The activities abound! We walked the beach and the Oyster River, drove to Campbell River and went to Quadra Island for the day.We will be back. The Saratoga speedway should be open in the summer where you can rent go carts and run them on a track. Miracle Beach Provincial Campground and Park are almost next door to explore as well.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Oyster river side can be noisy (unless you enjoy that sound of nature) as you listen to the rush of the river, and the cabins on the playground/field side can be noisy if you are in close proximity, as some are and some aren't....but its camping, and its to be expected.

Pacific Playgrounds is located between one of the best beaches on Vancouver Island, Saratoge Beach, and the beautiful, salmon bearing Oyster River. I arrived a few days before the last long weekend of the season without a reservation.

The staff were friendly and very accommodating in assisting me to choose the site that suited me best. Most of the sites are quite open, close together and lack privacy. The limited view sites were all taken as were the ones on the perimeter. There is a marina and boat llaunch available.

We settled for a site that was central and near the pool and shower. Our neighbours were quite close but the sites next to us were not always occupied during the week that we stayed. The sites were clean. Most sites have full service with power (15, 30, or 50 amp), water, sewer, some have cable. All sites have access to WiFi. WiFi reception is adequate.

The staff are careful to ensure that guests follow the rules for everyone's enjoyment. Even when the campground was full it was pleasant and restful to be there.

The pool although small was very refreshing. We really enjoyed the adult only swims in the afternoon. The real attraction is beautiful Saratoga Beach. It is only a short walk from the campground. There are several hiking trails near the campground. The Pub to Pub walk (Fisherman's Pub to Salmon Point) is a gorgeous walk along the ocean and a great destination for lunch. There is a children's playground and a tennis court as well as a large open field. The showers were excellent and kept quite clean even during the peak periods.

The campground store was not well stocked, I suspect they were reducing inventory going into the low season. However there is an excellent grocery store, Discovery Foods, a short walk away.

We enjoyed a pancake breakfast on Labor Day and met many fulltime RVers who make Pacific Playgrounds their home for part of the year. It made me think I'd like to try it. Pacific Playgrounds offers excellent seasonal rates as well as off season storage.

For someone who usually camps in wilderness sites, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed the full service camping at Pacific Playgrounds. I'll be back!

Our family has travelled all over Canada and the USA and still come back to Pacific Playgrounds feeling that we have the BEST campsite anywhere. The staff is forever trying to help and make all campers happy so that they can enjoy their stay. We see the same people coming back year after year. In the last 4 years we have seen vast improvements happening at Pacific Playgrounds from larger sites, improved and upgraded cabins and the rebuilding of the marine,(still upgrading) flower gardens, and I could go on and on but won't, because as I write this I am looking out my Motorhome window at the marine and watching a couple of eagles play with the wind. Wonderfull memories with family and friends.
