Pacific Playgrounds International RV Park, Cottages, Marina
Reviewed December 17, 2011

Our family has travelled all over Canada and the USA and still come back to Pacific Playgrounds feeling that we have the BEST campsite anywhere. The staff is forever trying to help and make all campers happy so that they can enjoy their stay. We see the same people coming back year after year. In the last 4 years we have seen vast improvements happening at Pacific Playgrounds from larger sites, improved and upgraded cabins and the rebuilding of the marine,(still upgrading) flower gardens, and I could go on and on but won't, because as I write this I am looking out my Motorhome window at the marine and watching a couple of eagles play with the wind. Wonderfull memories with family and friends.

This was the worst camping trip of our summer. They advertise tennis courts- they were closed with building supplies covering the court. The swimming pool was open for 30 minutes one day and 60 minutes another day for the full week we were there. We booked and paid the deposit for a cabin 12 months prior. When we got there (3 hour drive) we were given the wrong cabin and the maintenance man was there for 6 hours one day and 3 hours the next day. Noboday could use the washroom during this time.
I tried to voice my concerns at the office but was brushed off by the miserable office clerk. When I checked out I also wanted to extend my thoughts to the manager but was told she was not in again. I am still waiting for a phone call, 3 months later.
My sister was asked to move her motorhome at 10pm. This apparently is a common complaint of other campers we talked to. You can reserve, but you can't ask for a particular site and you might have to move during your stay.
The property is a gem, too bad the managers and staff are running it into the ground.
IF wanting to book- don't do it.

Camped here over the BC Day long weekend. Although the sites are cramped this campground has alot to offer when it comes to things to do and nearby attractions. Situated at Saratoga Beach, we enjoyed beachcombing and a fabulous view. On some evenings the cruise ships can be seen, however no one seemed to know a schedule for best viewing. The price is fair and they have the best selection of ice cream in a well stocked store. My only complaint would be the location of some of the hook ups. Depending on your site as we had our neighbors sewer right by our picnic table..ew! Luckily the only used it once while there. Our friends had to run their water - electrical in front of theirs. A trip hazard for kids!! The tennis court was closed and there is no place to work out but pool was ok

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Comments from our guests provide us with the very best information on how to continue to improve our facility. One of our yearly winter projects is to pick an area of the park and improve the services in each site in that area. This winter it is our plan to complete the process of moving the services in each of the remaining sites to more appropriate locations. This is necessary to better accommodate the newer RV sizes and designs. My how RV's have grown in the last 30 years!!
Cruise ship schedules; hmmm...they are often hard to find but we will make more of an effort to supply them in the future. And last but not least, our marina dock reconstruction project has taken up our tennis court over the past year, before next summer arrives we do hope to reopen this facility toour guests. Thanks again for your comments we really do appreciate them!

I am a little reluctant to write this review. Every now and then you come across a place you just want to keep to yourself. This is one of those places. My wife and I have been spending a week at one of their riverside cottages every year for the past seven years. We have never been disappointed.
I will start with the cottages. They are clean, well equipped and set back from the main campsite. The Oyster River is about 25 feet from the back decks of the riverside cottages. The river is a very benign river that has lots of wildlife from mink, crayfish, trout and salmon in season. The cabins are set in a grove of large trees and are very private. The price of the rentals is reasonable even in high season. The cabins are very busy during the summer so reservations long in advance is advised.
In the campgrounds we have seen everything from the smallest pup tent to the largest of motorhomes and 5th wheels. The campsites are serviced and have firepits and picnic tables. The sites are closly packed together though.
The resort is a great place for children- from fishing at the mouth of the river, swimming in the pool or river or ocean, or ice creams at the resort store. Saratoga Beach is a five minute walk away.
The staff at the resort is professional, friendly and they do an excellent job is keeping their resort a clean and happy place.
Pets are welcome here and we have seen dogs of every size. They must be leashed and you must pick up after them.
This is very much a family resort and a place where you park your vehicle and don't move it until you leave. Groceries, liquor, video store and coffee shop is a easy ten minute easy walk away.
The resort goes quiet at 11:00 PM. That means no loud music or large loud groups. If you have young adults in your group that like to party then Miracle Beach is probably better.
The campsites are packed so be prepared to at least somewhat socialize with your neighbors. We really enjoy the people we meet.
This resort offers the whole package especially for families with younger children. We also see lots of grandparents enjoying a week or two with the kids.
We go there for relaxation, the scenery and the amenities. It is our favourite place on Vancouver Island and will be back many more times to come.
