The peterboat is the place to go in old leigh. This restaurant has great food and the staff are brilliant. When the sun shines is when this place really goes wild, get there early!! u will not get a seat.

“Quaint but functional!”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

With 5 pubs to choose from, all serving food, a couple of cafes together with 2 'fine dining' restaurants as well as the cockle sheds selling shellfish there is something to suit everyone. It's obviously better when the sun is out and the tide in but it's still pleasant if not. Don't attempt to try and find parking in the Old town after 1100am if the sun is out - it won't exist - park under the flyover and walk instead. The station car-park is only 5 mins away. The beach is at the eastern end of the Old Town and during the summer there is a first aid post there, as well as public toilets. Beware of walking on the mud without shoes as some mindless cretins take great delight in throwing glasses into the water. Take heed of high tide times before attempting to walk out to the Ray and do make sure you return at least 2.5 hours before high water - the creek will fill in behind you and cut you off.

Wether you view the harbour area of old leigh with its few remaining fishing boats or just taking a stroll to try some fresh seafood it still retains its old world originality which is unique for the southend area as succesive councils have destroyed over the years everything that makes a town special,

Great in the summer with the annual festivals good fun. Nice pubs and very good restaurants, we live locally and when we have visitors we always make a point to show the best side of our area.

“old Leigh”

a lovely old fishing village which changes at let's say a depending on whether the tide is in or out.Parking can be a bit difficult at times but is free to Blue Badge holders.

Once there you are rewarded with plenty of pubs, cafes and cockle sheds one of which is just across the road from a pub so on a warm day or evening you can sit with a beer whilst eating cockles shrimps etc

The pubs all serve food and fish and chips is our favorite

My wife really likes one of the shops as you walk down the street and is a real Alladin's cave and has one of the original pier electric train carriages inside.
