Wetherspoons have a "formula" for all their pubs and this one is no different, just a lot bigger than most. Our visit was mid afternoon and the restaurant area was full of folk enjoying their Christmas menu so we found a table in the bar area and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There wasn't a problem getting served and the food was what you expect from Weatherspoons, but I think the steak and kidney pudding may have been in the microwave too long, very hot! There's a car park at either side of the pub but this gets full especially during holiday times when the large patio area at the front is very popular. Clean facilities and disabled access. Worth a visit on the way back from a day at Southend and cheaper than pubs on the sea-front.

I regularly go to the Elms as it has (or had) a wide range of cask conditioned beers. Unfortunately the wide range of handpumps now regularly bear "Coming Soon" or "Sorry not available" signs as the staff seem to be incapable of keeping a range of beers turning over. Furthermore the Elms has fallen foul of the trend for serving cask beers much too cold.

Staffing levels are a joke, you can wait for ages while the staff serve their mates or concentrate on just one end of the very long bar. Wetherspoons seem to do this on purpose - as one of the staff said a few months ago "you can have cheap beer or good service but not both"

Apart from that it is a standard Wetherspoons - bar menu (getting expensive now) with special days for Steaks, Curries and Sunday Roasts.

If you like cheap beer and cheapish food then this is for you. If you like good service go elsewhere.

Tuesday Nights at The Elms is Steak Night - wow what a dinner! The juiciest steaks, loveliest chips all for under £10! Can't beat it! Their Gourmet Burgers are such excellent value - stacked sky high and comes with a pint of my favourite Cider. We love 'Spoons!

recently went with a few friends for Sunday Roast and considering price (and that it came with a free drink) it was very tasty but alas left us with no room for a pudding!
