“An excellent hotel with great staff”
Reviewed July 23, 2012 via mobile

This is a really good hotel that sets high standards, the staff go all out to make you feel welcome and the food is quite simply fantastic. The hotel is slightly remote but offers a good shuttle service to the nearby beach. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel but its fairly intermittent when you try to use it in the room. There is no entertainment provided in the hotel (if that's your thing) however there is a very comfortable and well stocked cocktail bar. When we were there the hotel was fairly quiet which made it lack atmosphere a bit, but it meant there was plenty of room and beds round the pool during the day. We found the VAL Do Lobo area expensive by European standards and the Ria Park fell into this category too. We were travelling with teenage children and we were given a room with an adjoining room for the kids which was great. We would recommend this hotel to people who are not travelling on a budget and don't need entertained each night.

We were put up in this hotel by our airline when Faro Airport was closed by extreme weather / damage to the terminal buildings. After a five hour wait at the airport we were eventually herded onto coaches and driven out into the countryside - we were told "to a 5* resort". The resort is quite large - and is surrounded by "for sale" plots of undeveloped land. Upon arrival we were met by the reception team, who were very helpful - we just had to sign and were given a room key (and a separate card to activate the room electrics, and which you could leave in when you left your room, which sort of defeats the point !!). The room was very nice - large, with the usual continental "two-beds-pushed-together". The fixtures and fittings were very nice, and there was a large picture window that opened onto a private balcony. Closer examination actually showed that the whole place had this finished in a hurry look about it - cracks in the plasterwork and badly fitted items in the bathroom. Lunch was a free buffet with hot and cold selections, with plenty of drink (soft & wine). In the afternoon we visited the pool area - very nice, but somewhat short of sun-chairs, and lacking in sunny areas due to the surrounding shade trees. The poolside cafe/bar was closed for maintenance, so I visited the bar by the reception area - 6 euros for two small beers is what they were charging - over double what we had been paying elsewhere. Later we decided to visit the hotels private beach area - which in the in-house literature seemed to be adjacent to the hotel - but was in fact a 25 minute walk away. It was not very well signposted, and we only found it by accident whilst having a beer at one of the beach-side bars. For the evening meal, we were sent through a separate door to the "paying guests", who had been fenced off to keep us all separate. The food was a hot / cold buffet, with fruit for desert (no cake or icecream, but it is a spa !!), again there was plenty of free drinks (soft / wine). After dinner we used the bar in the lobby - there was initially only one barman (probably as they were not expecting nearly 300 extra guests). Bar prices were expensive, but the measures were plentiful, and the cocktails were excellent. Breakfast the following day was the usual continental fare, with no "hot" selection. Distribution of Tea / Coffee was somewhat confused. Overall - a very nice place on initial inspection - but it seemed like it was finished in a hurry, without an eye for detail. Not the sort of place I would have chosen for myself, but worthy of a look.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor - rear floor 1 (which is downstairs from reception) has it's view somewhat...

The Ria Park Garden is a lovely hotel. The bedrooms are a good size and are kept nice and cool with efficient air conditioning. The pool area is very nice and surrounded by lush and mature palm trees giving the whole place a tropical feel. There are free pool towels and also free beach towels at the reserved area on nearby Garrao beach. There is a convenient bus that takes you there in 5 minutes and spares you the 20 min walk. There are some great lunch/dinner venues here as well - Julias, Paradise, Izzys, Ta Certo. The tennis court area is really nice with two hard courts set in a nice grassed area and you book at reception.

On the downside, we found it slightly remote without a car and agree that the public areas are a bit soul-less. The hotel bar/restaurant was very expensive and the last bus to the Garrao beach is around 7pm - too early to use this for dinner which is a shame. If the hotel want people to dine in then they should make them more affordable. Like most hotels the tiled floors can also prove noisy if you have the nocturnal people staying above you like we did. Sea views? Forget it - you are too far away.
The nearby Spa is very nice with a lovely indoor pool but its quite expensive.

Finally, the hotel staff were great. We had various requests which were handled very efficiently. Unfortunately, we also needed to return home early which was handled extremely professionally by Luis who was an absolute star - thank you.

My family stayed here courtesy of Jet2 after our flight was cancelled. The hotel has a central lobby, with beautiful marble tiling. A sweeping, curved staircase leads from the lobby, up to each floor, with each floor having a circular balocony overlooking the lobby.
The room was sumptuous with very comfortable beds, the public rooms well appointed and very comfortable, the breakfast we had was suberb.
The garden and pool area was extremely well landscaped and very attractive. The view from the 6th floor is one of the best in the Algarve - uninterrupted from the sea to the mountains, with only trees and low level buildings in between.
The staff were very polite, helpful and accomodating. The hotel coped remarkably well with an unexpected deluge of 200 hot and tired travellers
The negatives are that the balcony leading off the staircase was not airconditioned, so was very warm & the service at the bar was very slow.
