This is a wonderful B&B. Excellent reception from the owners. Nice big room and bathroom (Jack).
Breakfast lovely - kippers, smoked salmon, perfect scrambled eggs and then the porridge! When we read the reviews we thought - what's so special about porridge? Well this is made with honey, cream, dried fruit and nuts and cooked overnight in the Aga- try it and you won't be disappointed.
The whole experience is to be recommended.

What a lovely old house - cosy, comfortable and delightfully furnished. A warm weklcome from our hosts - David & Christine too, and one of the best breakfasts ever - trying the 'Heavenly Porridge' is a MUST!

Room Tip: We stayed in 'Holly' room - lovely view over the garden and the birdfeeders - a pair of wood...

We stayed there in May 2011 travelling from Lake District to Edinburgh. We had a twin room with seperate bathroom next door. Everything was great - lovely hosts, wonderful furniture - traditional english style all thourgh the house...I love it !
On arrival we had a warm welcome by David. After showing us our room, he offered us some delicous fruit cake. The room was really spacious with a seperate sitting area, very comfortable beds, we also had an open fireplace (no in use, but it gives that special atmosphere). We also had a small fridge at our room, that was great. (only a few B&B offer this...unfortunately..)
We also had two wonderfull window-sills (with a book about birds and a binocular lying on it) - sitting there we watched the lovely dogs playing at the courtyard.

The Old Rectory is situated close to the sea. Impressive castles like Alnwick and Barmouth are within a short driving distance.

I only can recommend this wonderful B & B !

We have not long returned from a wonderful three nights stay in the Old Rectory. Our room (Jill) was just lovely with many personal touches such as fresh milk on arrival (for the much needed cup of tea). There is a small fridge provided in which to keep the milk. Also on arrival we were given some delicious local delicacy to go with the tea.

David and Christine are great hosts and the lady who serves breakfast is also very friendly and easy to talk to. Breakfasts were fantastic with much to choose from.

The location is perfect for exploring the coastal area of Northumberland. Within a small distance of the Old Rectory is a coastal path which is well worth walking.

There is so much to see and do in Northumberland that we will definitely need to visit the area again and the Old Rectory is where we would want to stay

Just returned from our 6th visit to the old rectory so it really goes without saying that this is a magical place. There is so much to do right from the door, Howick gardens is a must as is the tea room with delicious home made food. The walking is second to none and the scenery breathtaking. Lots of places to eat, some of our favourites are: Grannies & Cafe Terrino in Alnwick also The Coach Inn at Lesbury. We sometimes catch the train to Edinburgh for the day which goes from the station at Alnmouth and takes about 1 hour following the coast most of the way. All this and then back "home" to the most comfy beds ever. I could go on but all that remains to be said is that Christine and David make this a truly special place and somewhere you will want to return to again and again.
