“Indifferent service and no organisation”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

We walked in for a late lunch and were advised that we could sit outside. However, not having been here before we were surprised that we had to go and find menus ourselves and that the 'serving' staff couldn't be bothered to do this or point out that the tables immediately outside were not large enough for our family. Eventually, being fed up at being ignored for a considerable time we left and have no intention of returning. We were later advised that staffing is a major problem in this area as many are in it for the money with no concept of what constitutes decent and proper service.

Thank you for your comments on the service. We are very sorry that you had a bad experience in our pub restaurant. It has been the policy of our place and really now its industry standard our process. It is on the board that you find your own tables and order food at the bar with a table number. There will have been menus all along the bar and on two big black boards at bar area, again sorry if you missed those. I must apologies for my team offering tables outside and not knowing how many people were in your party! We have during the summer done over 300 covers a day and this is the first time that we have had an issue about the logistics of seating, menu availability, and party size. I sincerely hope you have more success in the future. Regards David Owner

“Dreadful service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We have eaten at the Jolly Fisherman a number of times before. The food has always been great, even if the precious owner had a reputation for being grumpy and unaccommodating and the new owners seemed to take forever for the food to actually arrive.

When we arrived at 7.10pm on a beautifully sunny bank holiday Monday, I thought it was strange that most of the tables outside were empty. I went to the bar and the sign said ’F ood served from 5-9pm’ so I tried to order food for the 2 of us. The barmaid’s brusque and not even vaguely polite or apologetic reply was “We’re not taking any walk ins, we’re just too busy. This might reopen at 8.45pm but I don’t know.” I’ve never been in to a pub or restaurant where there were many vacant seats both inside and out, they were serving for almost another 2 hours, yet they were simply refusing to do this.. Equally, you might expect August bank holiday, considering what a fabulous summer we’ve had, to be busy. It was the unapologetic “take it or leave it” manner that will mean I won’t bother to sit and wait over an hour for a main course at this pub again. If you’re too busy to accommodate a customer than you could have the decency to apologise for this fact. Don’t waste your time or cash here until they manage to train their staff to produce and serve food on time and to speak to customers with decency and respect.

“Not to be missed”

The crab sandwiches here are delicious. Follow this with the mint chocolate ice cream and you are set up for a good long walk along the front to Dunstanborough Castle.

“Poor service, food average. Nice view”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

We booked a table for 7pm on bank holiday weekend but we had to wait another 50mins before we got to our table. I had wondered what the reason for booking was for if they didn't stick to their bookings. Our children were really hungry at this point. The food was average, inline with a 'chain' pub but without the lower price! The management seem more interested in volume of people as opposed to customer satisfaction. Paying £150 for a meal we were very disappointed in the food and service. We will try the fish boat in at bolumer next time. View was great though, ale was good too.
