“Good place for kids”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Elephant camp has about 70+ elephants. All elephants are treated very well and place is pretty clean.Entry fee is only Rs.5!! they need to increase this!! One can finish the visit in 20-30mins.Guess they should start some sort of activities for kids to enjoy it.like elephant rides, shows etc.

“Mini zoo for elephants”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

A place that kids and adults got to visit near Guruvayoor, just 4-5 kms from main temple. An auto ride would cost about Rs 50 one way. If you are ok with smell of zoo and like to watch elephants, this a perfect place, there are over 65 elephants.

“Terrible way to treat gentle giants”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

We came here after visiting Guruvayur Temple, a short auto ride away.

We had heard they had lots of elephants here, they were kept for the temple and as such we thought the elephants being venerated would be well cared for.

We walked through the gates after paying a reasonable entry fee and immediately saw an elephant, it was big! It was also tethered and hobbled with no real space (or movement in chains) to allow it to move...we continued to walk and continued to see the same thing with every single elephant that was here. It was pitiful to see these gentle giants subjected to this. Some were just swaying from side to side and their eyes looked very very sad and melancholy.

As I said we thought being temple elephants and being Ganesh was the elephant God that somehow these would be well cared for, respected and well treated. Wrong on all counts!

We actually felt guilty taking photo's and the visit left a very sour taste in the mouth. Our only bad experience in a month in India!

Please for the sake of the elephants don't put your money into this place, not until they improve anyways and AVOID!
