I am a regular visitor to this great temple. The QUE system works well and I frequently use this mode. This is one way to get to know the reality and experience the moods of various kinds of devotees One can also use other channels - you don't need to pay any money - and gain access to the temple directly depending on who you are ? But such an entry robs you of the rich experience of mingling with a variety of people from all over India. The sanctity of this temple is still kept in its most rustic and traditional style. The temple is very clean. And the variety of people who visit with such devotion is baffling. But one thing that is strikingly annoying is the discourteous temple staff inside the inner temple who always treat the devotees like a flock of sheep. Many people tolerate this Trade Marked unbecoming behaviour because as they are nearer the deity having waited for hours, they don't want to contaminate their thoughts and that experience with the distractions produced by the unruly and sometimes abusive behaviour of these sinning temple staff.
Once I experienced one such temple staff using an empty agarbatti box to "pat" ( i am using a mild term 'pat' - actually it was worse) on the naked shoulders of visitors - the idea is to drive them away quickly.. In Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Karnataka Temples, such a practice is unthinkable. But if you choose to avoid the QUE and come in as VIP, these staff dare not do anything. Some devotees react but in the process lose the tranquility they were seeking. This is nothing but the arrogance of these people who haven't been trained properly. In Kerala I suppose one should not expect that. But the Temple Authorities can do something because the staff at the Sales Counters are less aggressive !!
