From beginning to end Ballykine House is an excellent experience. We first contacted this B&B for booking via the internet we received a very prompt response. We asked several questions about the B&B as well as the area and all were answered. The price quoted was accurate on arrival. We were greeted by Ann Lambe (The Owner) and were very pleased to be greeted with a smile and a friendly face. We were offered tea and biscuits and they were ready when we settled in. The breakfasts were great, the house itself is rich in history and warm and very inviting. The surroundings themselves offer a great experience for the walker/backpacker to the romantic couple. This experience was fanastic and we will return in the future.

The surroundings of lush green grass, forest and pasture as well as the view that we had of the lough from our room made our stay a magical one. This was our last night in the countryside of Ireland before heading off to Dublin to return to the states (oh no!!!) and Ballykine was just what we needed for a peaceful, relaxing night and following morning. Before breakfast, we took an early morning walk in the mist and soft rain through a forest like we've never seen before. The colors of green and the fragrance of plants, flowers, moisture and soil were unforgettable and perfectly Irish. This was a dream-like setting, something that you would expect to see only in a movie. The two hundred year old Guiness house, the friendly hosts, and clean, comfortable accommodations made it a wonderful stay. It was extremely hard to tear ourselves away. We would definitely return there.

We absolutely LOVED our (too short) time at the Ballykine House. The house itself is a 200 year old Guinness lodge up on a hillside overlooking the villages of Cong and Clonbur, and Lough Mask. We got in quite late and were greeted by Mrs. Lamb, the lovely hostess. She offered us tea and cake to "shake the dust of the road off" before showing us our room.

The accommodations were astounding - comfortably decorated with all the modern amenities, and an ensuite bath. In the morning we walked around the grounds which are gorgeous - a historic wall surrounds the property, as do arbors and benches. Breakfast was personally served by Mrs. Brown in a comfortable breakfast room, and she was more than happy to give us recommendations for things to do in the area. We spent a whole day just sitting in the garden or lazing around in bed - a very comfortable place.

The Ballykine House's location is actually quite near the county lines of County Mayo, Galway, and Connemara. It makes a marvelous home base for visiting any of these three locations. If your travels take you into this area, you'd be losing out if you didn't try to get a room here.
