“Ballykine House is truly a GREAT B&B!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

I've stayed in many B&Bs and I must say, Ballykine is certainly one of the finest. Part of what used to be the Guiness family's estate, the house itself once belonged to the gamekeeper. Ann Lamb, the hostess, was actually born there and her love of the place is evident in every detail. She and her husband are a delightful couple and Ann is a superb cook. The place is merely an hour's beautiful drive north of Galway City, in between two tiny, traditional villages: Cong and Clonbur. For more info, see my blog: http://goodoldtimestoday.blog.com/

My third visit to Ballykine was a delight! As always, Ann welcomed us with a cup of tea and a
showing of the movie, The Quiet Man. Our rooms had been beautifully redone with well stocked bathrooms. The menu included both Irish Breakfast and other choices. We felt so at home, as I had on earlier visits. Due to blustery weather we did not take the usual hike, however since the 50th reunion of the Quiet Man movie had just taken plance in Cong, there was still a buzz of excitement to share there. 'Fun to see the people on the city walking tour all decked out in costumes as John Wayne and maureen O'Hara! We could only spend 2 nites this time, but will return! There's no better place tostay to see Ashford Castle and the Connemara area. Be sure to hear Annette Griffin sing on her nights at the Castle, by the way.

Upon our arrival to the Ballykine House in Clonbur, Ireland, Ann met us with the warmest of welcomes possible. Her B & B was absolutely spotless and her Irish Breakfast was delicious. Ann shared with us the history of the House and also personal stories, which we really enjoyed. The location was great, lakes all around. Animals right outside the windows. A real nature's paradise.

The purpose of this review is to point out that the review entitled "Grande Arnaque" posted by "juanitad" of Barcelona on 13 June 2009 is totally incorrect. The rates at Ballykine are €35 per night sharing and €45 single occupation and have been the same for a number of years. I suspect that the complainants contacted Renvyle House Hotel in error (Renvyle House confirm that they frequently receive calls from people trying to contact Ballykine). I have stayed at Ballykine every year for the past 8 years and and can confirm the view of the majority of reviewers that it is an excellent B&B and that Ann and Barry look after their guests extremely well. Please do not be put off by this egregious error. I hope that tripadvisor can remove what is clearly a mistake.

We have just popped up without prior reservation, and soonly realized that it was the last resort for us. During our last three days in Ireland, we have been continuously in Ann's attentive care. That was definitely discreet and very polite. We would recommend Ballykine House for all people who love the nature, walk in the country, and appreciate calm and friendly environment. We keep it in our good memory. Congratulations.

Very peaceful place with beautiful landscape to see. The breakfast was great, with lots of food. However the breakfast time was to early during holydays
