“One of the wonders of Mozambique”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Quelimane city is pretty live place where you can feel yourself in a park surrounded by palm trees, with so many Portuguese and Arabic buildings, where you can feel the taste of Mozambique native shrimp and Zambezian Chicken which is unique.

“Incredible Photo opportunity”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

In an incredible state of ruin this cathedral is your great photo opportunity in Quelimane. Best views are from teh Chuabo Hotel restaurant verandah. Pretty soon it will be revitalized and it will lose the magic of the ruin its currently in.

“There are 2 cathedrals in Quelimane...”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

It's a bit telling I guess when the number one attraction in Quelimane according to Trip Advisor is a dilapidated old cathedral that's basically used as a dosshouse for local drunks. It's still cool, provided you don't mind the pretty strong stench of excrement and vomit. All a bit sad. That said, and I don't know why the guidebook we had doesn't make this clearer, they've built a new cathedral in the centre of town, and it's stunning. Amazing use of stained glass in a peculiar shaped structure. I only just remembered this now after writing a review for the (very nice) cathedral in Nampula, but the one in Quelimane was my single favourite religious building in 6 months in Southern Africa. So 5* for the new one, and 3* for the old one that's unfortunately not being remotely cared for.
