“Comfortable and affordable rooms with a great restaurant up the road”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in the "garden" rooms for 450, 000 Idr per night and while the breakfast is a bit spartan, the rooms are quiet and comfortable with AC and are in a pleasant courtyard round a pool. The cheaper "seaview" rooms look a bit grim and the more expensive "frangipani" rooms, about 100 metres away in a separate location, are clearly a more luxurious option. We opted for the mid-range garden rooms and were happy with our choice. The rooms are in a quiet location, apart from cocks crowing, and the associated restaurant up the road was great food for great value. We hired a scooter from them at 50,000 Idr per day; you need transport to make the most of the islands. We went round Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan to a spectacular coastal viewpoint and the different beaches like Mushroom Bay and Dream Beach, but the surf can be a bit rough at times and the snorkelling at these places is disappointing in comparison with Mangrove Point (only accessible by boat).

The diving outfit that's associated with Pondok Baruna, World Diving, has a great reputation although, having done 4 dives with them, I wouldn't say that they offer a much better service or have better equipment than anywhere else. In fact, I dived with Bali Diving Academy 4 years ago and they were more safety conscious and customer-oriented. However, the diving is awesome; the reefs around the North of Nusa Penida, like at Toyakapeh, are in pristine condition and you have the chance to see big pelagics like Mola Mola at a few sites like Blue Corner & Crystal Bay and Mantas at Manta Point.

Overall, I'd recommend Pondok Baruna's garden rooms while you're in Nusa Lembongan, as they're good value and very comfortable and the food at the restaurant was some of the best we had all holiday. And the diving is awesome!

Was pleasantly surprised by this place in Lembongan - very cheap, large rooms, good location, fans and with access to swimming pool and cafe area. The sea view rooms are right on the beach (a little noisy in the mornings) and the pool view in a lovely courtyard. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed at the sea front and garden rooms. Sea front is a bit down market with fans only but the name says it all in terms of location. Breathtaking sunsets. Garden rooms are gorgeous, new and neat: set around the pool. It is the attached world diving centre and the staff in the place that adds the real bonus here. They are charming and friendly. Nearby they have a restaurant which is good value. Manager 'Balinese Renaldo' as he calls himself is a hoot and will go out of his way to ensure you have a great stay.

I returned to Nusa Lembongan after a previous stay of about 5 night at this guest house. After my first stay i wrote a glowing review of the guesthouse and the associated dive operation, World Diving. However my return stay here was a bit disappointing. I found the staff at Pondok alright to good, although the owner tends to be pretty stand offish. The young local guys at front desk are great though. I also found the owners at the dive school pretty cold, although professional they seemed mechanical. I choose not to dive with them, preferring Drift Divers. I recommend looking around for accomodation...

We stayed in the seafront rooms which were excellent! Pretty basic but clean and cousy. Looking at the sunset from your own terrace every night wasn't that bad. There is some mentioning of sounds from the ocean disturbing but we didn't notice it. The sound of waves is relaxing. The staff is very friendly but the best part was the Pondok Baruna restaurant a little further down the road. Food was excellent, the menu exciting and the staff welcoming and funny.

We went to Nusa Lembongan for 3 or 4 days but ended up staying 12 days. We had such a pleasant visit that we went back for another 5 days at the end of our trip. We stayed in the garden rooms which have A/C and the pool. We heard from others that the noise of slapping waves on the beach make them less than restful.
The staff at Pondok Baruna are friendly and attentive and they do double duty at the Warung which serves the best Indonesian food on the island! NOTE: There is no internet / Wifi at these bungalows. The pool has a very deep section which is used for diving lessons. Location is great!

We were there in June 2009, the garden rooms were under construction, so we stayed in a sea-front room.
We were next to the dive center, so logistically excellent.
Maybe a bit of lack of privacy but this really did not bother us at all, as the rooms are higher than the walking path. The view over the sea at night is stunning...
Comfort is average, the room is basic, there is no airco but only some fans, which made the week quite heavy, due to the temperature and the humidity.
The bathroom was very very poor, after few days it stopped working, so we had to use the one of the diving center (just 10 mt away), which was ok solution, even if not really the top.
We found the staff of the resort and the diving center always very available and nice.
The food is excellent, also personalised if you need.
Accommodation and food were really cheap.
Should we go back, we would choose the garden rooms, which looked more comfortable.
