“Nice view, location, but service was sub par”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2013

We stayed here 4 nights of our 2 week trip to Bali. Stayed in 4 hotels total and this was the most disappointing. This was the one location and hotel I was looking forward to the most. Booking the reservation was easy with Andrew who I believe is the onsite manager but while we were there he happened to be away on business and I wonder if the staff acts differently when he is there.
Basically, the room is basic with no frills which is fine, but it could have been kept cleaner, the bathroom was basic and had a terrible smell. The view from the room was breathtaking looking over at Bali and Mt. Agung. Our biggest issue with the place was the service. The hotel definitely had enough staff but they just weren't working. They were sitting around talking to each other, on the phone, or just not being helpful. When we were at the pool nobody took a drink order and the bar/restaurant staff just did nothing. The pool area had food and empty bottles, etc. laying around that nobody picked up for hours until the next day. The front desk was not always staffed and guests would go for a question or help and nobody was there. They just all seemed lazy and unorganized unfortunately. The grounds were not kept as clean as they could have been for sure. The "day trippers" which have their own pool which is nice, but every day a few of them would come to the hotel guests pool to hang out and none of the staff would say or do anything about it. I really was hoping for more of a quiet time with them staying over at the other pool. One day as many as 8 of them were there on the hotel guests pool.
pros of the place: The band that played every day made it a fun atmosphere and enjoyable to be at the property. Food and drinks were good and reasonably priced. Happy hour was nice to smash a few Bintangs. They helped us book our boat back to mainland early because we had a long day of traveling that day. Smuggles bar was my favorite to start the evening for happy hour or just to hang out at.
Overall, I think their are better deals on the island and better places to stay. the individual huts are nice and the view is great but too many disappointing things happened on our stay.

Regarding the stairs and rooms: They all have good views. Higher up is only slightly better, we were in room 6 which is barely half way up the massive stairs and that was plenty. We are in good shape and we felt that being all the way at the top would be WAY too much when you have to make multiple trips up and down in a day.

Room Tip: We were in room 6, which is high enough for a great view but not a monster trek

I stayed at Coconut Beach Resort for two nights with my partner. The room cost $100 which compared to other places I've stayed in Bali hasn't been good value. The rooms are very basic and not particularly good value. Dirty curtains, air con doesn't work that well and the bathroom is very basic. However, breakfast is standard and the pool is really nice with stunning views of the water. Wouldn't stay here again despite pros.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The so called "villas " are very rustic. There are large gaps under the front door allowing spuders and geckos to come in. The towels looked very dingy and the door to the bathroom was a swinging door, open at the top and bottom, not much privacy. However the air con worked well and the little fridge kept the drinks cold. The pools were a bit small but nice. However they do need to repair or replace the umbrellas and a couple of the sun loungers as they were broken. One pool is supposed to be used only by guests staying there and the other one for daytrippers. Too bad this isn't enforced! Oftentimes there were no sun lounges available. The food and drink was reasonably priced and no complaints there. We stayed in room #4 and that was 59 steps from the main footpath. Just keep in mind that they are not normal steps, i felt like i had been mountain climbing at the end of each day, but by the end of our stay i had gotten a bit used to it.

Other reviewers have rated this place higher partly basing it on view, location, nearby resturants, surf etc. I am basing my review solely on the "resort" itself.

Nusa lembongan is beautiful and the views from Coconuts Resort are beautiful but there are places a few doors down that offer the same views and location at half the price! I don't mind rustic if thats what i am expecting, but at a approx. $ 110.00 per night i was expecting more and it is very overpriced for what you get.

The "resort" obviously is geared for day trippers, and why not with a million dollar view like that. For the day tripper there is a great pool, maybe 2 if you cant read the english sign on the house guest only pool. The beer is cold and the food tasty and cheap enough. All this on a cliff face with views of the main beach and the island of bali.

The rooms are labelled as villas. Most people define villas as superior accomodation. Here however they use the term rather loosely. The rooms are smallish round huts quite rustic in design. The doors dont seal due to the huge gaps. The bathroom door is like batwing door from a western movie. At least the aircon worked, something that not all rooms could claim after talking to fellow house guests.

And the steps, what the hell is with that? They are just plain ridiculous. Not just heaps, but so tall and random. I booked by email and was told we had room 5, one step up. We got there and were told we had room 11. After scaling the cliff to look at the room i had to say now way! We ended up in room 4, still some 59 steps from the footpath. Just be aware of that.

As an avid bush camper I dont have a problem with not having the best of facilities, but i dont lie paying for superior rooms when i get a rustic hut. Just up the foot path there is better accomodation for about half the price.

Love the pool, love the island. Woud i stay there again , yes but not for that price. About half would be fair. I wont hold my breath

This hotel offers beautiful views of the bay & Mt Agung from your bungalow. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The bungalows are fit for purpose and were clean. The bed was big and very comfortable and you needed it after climbing all the stairs. It is really mountain goat terrain, so if you have a dicky knee or a bit unfit then request a bungalow down low, other wise it is great for burning off some Bintang calories. Always carry a torch or phone at night as the lighting in and around the hotel is a bit dim. The pools were pleasant with great views but a bit warm to be really refreshing. The meals were great and breakfast was adequate. We stayed for 4 days and the price was reasonable. During the day and influx of day trippers come to the hotel for a swim & drink at the bar, I found this interesting and met some nice people. If peace and quiet is what you want then be some where else during this time. Overall the stay was good and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you have leg/knee troubles or are unfit request a low level room. One person I met had to move ou...

We recently stayed in this resort for 5 nights. There was a large group of 8 people. We all thoroughly enjoyed the stay and have vowed to return next year. Yes the stairs are tough, but you sure get fit fast! The room was spacious, and clean. The bed was made up every day, 2 bottles of fresh water supplied, and I had no issues with mozzies. Every room had a bottle of mozzie spray, but after giving a good spray day one as I left the room for dinner, I barely saw another mozzie for the whole stay. The big picture windows open and give great ventilation, the air conditioner worked really well. Andrew, the manager was on site most of the time, and he was always ready to help and give good info. I thought the day on the fun ship was less than ideal. There was a huge swell and strong current and most of the visitors from non swimming countries were having a ball. However, they had no water skills and we were quite anxious for their safety quite often, though they seemed oblivious to their risk. The village was a great walking destination, with friendly and inviting locals who loved to say hello to you as you walked about. The pools in the resort are small, but kept very clean. Remember that you are on a small unsophistocated island and you will enjoy coconuts

Room Tip: try to manage being a bit up the hill despite the stairs. The views from there are simply amazing an...

Because we were not over happy with our hotel in Sanur, rather than trying to upgrade, we decided to go over to Lembongan Island for a night. What a pleasant surprise, the Coconut Beach was excellent with fantastic views over the bay. The rooms were large and a good bathroom to the side with all the usual facilities.
Restaurant was good and staff service attentive.
This island is an oasis of peaceful tranquility most of the time except when the Grockles come over from Bali on the day trip. However this hotel has got it right and ushers them to a separate pool and bar.
Bali has got over commercialised recently and this island is probably as Bali was 20 years ago. There are a variety of other eating places nearby and a stroll along the path into the village is interesting. Seaweed the main export is drying all around and does give an aroma that some may find strong but it is the islanders life blood apart from tourism (which is on the up)
The rooms are rondavels and If you are infirm they are up a steep hill which once you are down from you do not want to go back up in a hurry. But the view is worth it once you have your breath back.
The bar area is great with a sand floor and the resident band seranades you and will play most of your requests albeit with a very Indonesian accent.

Simon Reeves the travel expert reccomended this island to us while we were at a Kuoni evening in Canterbury and we are very pleased we went for a look. We loved it and would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you do not like steps book a room at a lower level but the views will not be as good.
