What a relaxing place to stay... right on the beach, with awesome views across the strait back to mainland Bali, including an imposing view of Mt Agung. Four air-conditioned bedrooms, including one with six beds for the kiddies (two bunks, one double). Our hosts were helpful and attentive, without being too 'visible' or in your face. My wife said that the massage she got here was the best she's ever had. Food was good, great space for kids to run around in, good pool, plenty of room, very relaxed pace of life. Easy(ish) walk around to the main beach, which takes in some pretty good-quality dining and drinking options. WiFi was good, only slowed down a couple of times. I managed to do some work while here (despite being severely de-motivated!). Great place to stay and relax if you're visiting Bali, or more specifically Lembongan.
Villa, location and staff were more than we could have asked for. Big thanks to Made, Gian (excuse me spelling) and Gade. A great place to stay
This is the home of your dreams. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable. The staff IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. The kitchen has every appliance you may need. The pool is gorgeous and the view from the pool is to die for. Not only that, but it is right on the water. We were here on the day of silence in the Hindu culture (which means that we had to stay at the property for the entire day). We were not bored for one second! This house is inviting and lovely and everything that anyone could hope for. You must stay here for you will not regret it.
We stayed here with our three teenage sons for 5 nights. We absolutely loved this place. The team of three (Made, Gian and Gede) looked after us so well and are very friendly and helpful. The owners were very responsive to emails when booking and afterwards if we had any questions.
They organised for Wayan in his boat to pick us up right in front of the villa and take us snorkelling for a few hours and then a few days later Wayan took us to Crystal Bay for more snorkelling (which was also amazing) and afterwards we stopped into Mushroom Bay for lunch at Hai Tai and Wayan waited for us and dropped us back on the beach right in front of the villa.
Each morning Made, Gian and Gede would cook us a delicious breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they kept the viila, the pool and the grounds spotless. We went out to dinner each night and Gian would make the booking and organise for us to be collected and dropped back to the villa by the different restaurants.
Regarding the villa, it is very comfortable. The beds are great, air con works perfectly, speedy WiFi. The power on Lembongan is a little unreliable and goes off for small lengths of time here and there, but it didn't matter as Rumah Kayu have a generator. It's also quite easy as there is a walking track around to the next small beach and then up onto the next track to the bars and restaurants on the cliff face, like The Deck. The walk took us about 10 minutes.
Our sons like to surf and they took their surfboards and paddled out to Playgrounds and one day Wayan took them out to Shipwreck, which they loved. There's also large, beautiful lawn in the garden to play cricket or football.
We really didn't want to leave and were considering cancelling our next stay (but we'd paid, so couldn't). All up, I'd highly recommend Rumah Kayu and hope that we can return.
My husband and I stayed here with some friends at the beginning of January. This villa is incredible. We were greeted by the beautiful staff - Gian, Made and Gede- who work at Villa Rumah Kayu - so friendly and helpful. The house looks out over a beautiful garden, with the odd chook/rooster running around (the rooster did like to wake us up pretty early in the mornings...), over the infinity pool and onto the crystal clear waters of Nusa Lembongan. The beach out the front is quite safe to swim in. You can walk around the island to the right - coconut beach is the next beach around, nice for a swim or paddle board, and further along you get to the main stretch of restaurants. I think this villa is in the best location on Nusa Lembongan. Away from the main area but close enough to walk to.
The villa exceeded our expectations and I don't think the photos do it justice! We "reluctantly" left the villa each day to go snorkelling and diving (which is by far the best diving/snorkelling I've ever done), but always wanted to get back to the villa ASAP. The rooms are spacious and spotless, the beds are so comfortable and the attention is in the detail - e.g. water bottles provided at the bathroom sink, filled with fresh filtered water every day.
As I said before the staff are amazing. They organised some groceries to be delivered for breakfast, which they then came over and made for us! Can also organise snorkelling trips (approx $25pp for a few hours) and Made was available at times to take us to places in his truck (for an extra fee). As soon as we arrived were quick to ensure we had enough beer stocked in the fridge as well as drink mixers and limes - perfect!
I will definitely come back to Rumah Kayu - maybe in the future with some kids in tow - it would be a perfect spot for kids.
Thank you Linda and Simon, and Gian, Made and Gede!
Rumah Kayu, Nusa Lembongan’s Best Kept Secret (maybe not now?)
As a frequent visitor to Indonesia since 1979 and N.L. in ’82 few places stand-out and draw me back as does Rumah Kayu…everything seems right in the world when you are there, so much so that we have a standing booking every two years and I can now ‘go public’ and share it with you - without the fear of missing out!
Over the times that I’ve stayed there, be it with alone, with other couples, or with other families with young kids or young adults, the magic is that the property seems to suit every occasion. Everyone can come together or find their own space. My most recent visit this year saw the property tastefully redecorated with new custom-made furniture, more mod-con’s plus the addition of another separate bedroom and ensuite along with a recreation room, taking the capacity comfortably to twelve. I’ve come to love the ‘off-season’ between October and November and February to March – a lot more chilled and refreshing than during high season, especially if combined with a stay on Bali or Lombok, avoiding the crowds and hassles.
The property is brilliantly located, having 2000m2 (1/2 acre) of private, manicured grounds beach-side , the large pool with an adjoining, serviced pavilion within easy reach adds another level of luxury and to the property. Dealing with local owners, Simon and Linda is such a pleasure and having their managers Made, Gian and Gede right next door, is a dream. They seem to have thought of everything you may need. Just let them know what you require are and they’ll take care of the details, be it activities, organising dining options or even an amazing massage therapy, whatever you desire.

As part of a two week Bali holiday we kicked off with 7 days at Villa Rumah Kayu. Everything about this piece of paradise was perfect for the entire family. Unbelievable views, yoga in the garden, boat rides straight from the back door and unreal surfing a short paddle away.
The staff were awesome and we are already planning our return.
