“Tranquil and a little eerie”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

We hired scooters for the day and travelled around Nusa Lemongan to get our bearings. First stop out toward the mangroves. We stopped at a little warung for a drink and noticed they did a mangrove tour by boat. Cost $5 each for 4 of us for a 40 minute ride with Captain Blaxy. The mangroves themselves are huge. The first part of the ride is very open and takes you to the sea out into seaweed farms for a short time and then back through a very narrow creek where the mangrove roots scrape the side of the boat. Quite eerie in this part as the mangroves enclose you. We saw a couple of tiny black tip reef sharks about 30 cms long and a goanna (monitor lizard) about 80 cms long. Captain Blaxy pointed out crabs and snails which the locals eat. There were numerous tiny fish which are also caught for food. We saw some beautiful blue colored birds which looked like king fishers as well. Captain Blaxy said we were lucky to have seen so much wild life especially the sharks. Captain Blaxy speaks quite good English and was happy to answer many questions. Go prepared with good insect repellant as the mozzies are numerous especially in the enclosed part of the mangroves. The boat is also propelled by pole like a gondola so be prepared to get the odd splash of dirty water on you. Well worth a look if you've never seen mangroves before plus it helps locals supplement their income from seaweed farming.

“Snorkelling & Swimming with Manta Rays”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

We stopped at this Warung owned & managed by Bobo and his lovely family. We mentioned we were interested in some snorkelling and had heard that it was good to swim with the Mantas. Bobo offered his boat. We went snorkelling off the mangroves for a few hours for about $5AUD per person for 3 of us. The snorkelling was great. Stacks of fish.
The next day, we arranged a trip to swim with the Mantas. WOW!. We saw 5 , swam within a metre of each whilst they performed backflips and generally had a good look at us.
Bobo was great and showed us several other snorkelling spots. 4 hours for $40 AUD.
Arrived back and had a meal at the Warung - lovely basic Indo food and so cheap.
Thoroughly recommend Bobo and his lovely wife & daughter to look after you.

“Really quiet, perfect place for relax”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

The best place to enjoy the nature. Is it very quiet and peaceful here. There are also a few small warung in the mangrove area, so do not worry if you need a cold drink or snack.
One short notice, please be careful, the road leading to this place bumpy, a lot of hole, and damage everywhere. you have to be extra careful when riding bicycles or motorcycles/scooter.

“Rare and beautiful phenomenon!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Where we come from, Europe, we only know mangrove forests from pictures. Making a boat trip through the forest was a beautiful experience. This time we made the pictures ourselves! Beware: The trip to the forest and the start of the boat trips is a very, very bumpy ride. Somewhere on the road to the forest one of the locals has made his living of selling tickets to be allowed to proceed?!
