“Check Shipwrecks surf spot from your bed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2014

We spent six days on the beautiful island of Nusa Lembongan, staying at Mega Cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Although it's easy enough to find cheaper accommodation in the area and with a pool (around 150,000rp) we paid a little more to stay at Mega because the rooms were a lot nicer, with a section of beach out front and a view of two surf breaks from our room. After a little bargaining we paid 200,000rp for a room with a fan, and my parents who joined us a few days later paid 250,000 for one with air con.

The cottages are basic but clean and tidy with a large comfy bed and nice balcony area. Rooms have an adjoining bathroom with a low pressure cold shower and western toilet. Brekkie and cold drinks are also available in the attached restaurant.

Joe and the other staff at Mega were very friendly and helpful, and they arranged for us to take a snorkelling trip to Manta Bay for a pretty good price (highly recommended). Joe also sorted our return trip to Bali on a fast boat for 100,000rp which is less than we had paid to get there.

The only downside I should mention is that during our six nights there our rooms weren't cleaned, or bedding or towels changed. It wasn't a big deal to us but this might be an issue for some travellers (other homestay type accommodation i've visited in Bali made beds daily and changed towels every other day).

Some tips on Nusa Lembongan generally - whilst it's beautiful, it's not a great place for people looking for long stretches of sandy beach to relax on and water to swim in. Bring plenty of cash as there is no ATM in the area. One of the dive shops will give cash through card payments with a 5% charge.

If you're looking for a peaceful place on Lembongan, close to Shipwrecks surf spot and a step up from the more basic accommodation, then this is a great choice.

Room Tip: If you like to keep cool at night choose a room with aircon - the fan rooms can get pretty warm!

The beach is at your doorstep and there is only a few cottages. A welcome relief from busy Bali. Each cottage has a veranda with a view to the beach and seaweed farms. The room was basic, clean and had a bathroom with a shower. There is no pool but it isn't really needed considering the ocean is literally on your doorstep.

Room Tip: There is no hot water in the bathroom.

We stayed for a week and it was great. You get your own hut which has a nice big room and bathroom, all very clean. You get your own little patio area overlooking the garden and beach. It's in a great location on the main road. Very good value for what you get. Beds really comfy, rooms also have aircon. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. You can rent paddle boards and scooters for a good price. Breakfast isn't included but it's nice and cheap if you want it. Only downside is the wifi is slow but that's kind of a given in most places on the island. Plus there are windows looking into the bathroom from the bedroom that don't have curtains which is kind of odd if you're going to the toilet. Overall it's a great place to stay, I will definitely be staying again when in lembongan and highly recommend to others.

I had planned to stay in lembongan for more than a week, so as i arrived i checked all the hotels on the beachfront to find a really lovely one. and i found the best one. Mega cottage is directly on the beachfront, the huts are really new and big, each with their one terasse including sea view. i directly felt in love with this place. and best thing: it was cheaper than all the other places. (and mostly of the other hotels didnt had bungalows directly on the sea) Joe the owner and his family was really lovely, they organised snorkling and island trips for me. the didnt offer dinner, but the breakfast was awesome. they dont have a own pool, but you can use the one from the next hotel for a small fee (even if you pay the pool fee, it is still cheaper and much nicer staying at the mega cottage. but be aware of the strong tide. for me one of the best places in indonesia!

Room Tip: there not many bungalows, all are nice.. but sure the best ones are these with the big window. and y...

We came from a long trip, tired, starving, dreaming with taking a shower and eat something and when we arrived the guy told us they were very sorry but they gave our room to someone that showed up and they were full. That was very disrespectful, they didn't care that we had booked in advance and we had to walk door to door with our bags trying to find a place to sleep!

I booked this accommodation at the last minute on a weekend when the Island was filling up fast, so wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I spent four nights at Mega Cottage and loved it. I am rating Mega Cottage on vaule for money and service. The cottages are very spacious, clean and have very comfortable double beds with mosquito netting. I stayed in a fan cottage in September which was sufficiently cool. The cottages look out over the surf breaks and sea-weed leases- they are a great spot to watch the farmers from. Perfectly positioned to people watch from and enjoy the stunning sunsets. The showers are cold water but after a day in the hot sun I didn't mind that at all. I had breakfast here two out of my four mornings - the pineapple pancakes were fabulous. Joe took me on a tour of the Island on the back of a motor-bike which was great. Joe also arranged for a snorkeling trip - probably the highlight of my stay, I was fortunate enough to snorkel with the magnificent and inquisitive manta rays. Nusa Lembongan is a laid back and relaxed but there is development taking place. The beach in front of Mega Cottage is not great for swimming but walk around to Coconuts and you can find yourself a nice spot on the sand and watch the surf board riders launching themselves out of Playgrounds. I would highly recommend these great little cottages to anyone looking for basic, comfortable accommodation with a great view and great hospitality.

We were happy to get more than what we paid for. Great location. It's just by the beach. and walking distance to lots of restaurants nearby and the dive shops. The bed was comfortable. The room itself is huge though there are no drawers/closets available.Shower didn't have hot water.

We didnt eat here but we ate in nearby restaurants instead. There's an electricity shortage in the whole island so they usually turn off the generator around 10ish. Some hotels/restaurants will have it running for more hours. There was a night where we had no electricity and they provided us with candles and matches. No issue as the weather was very breezy.

I would recommend this to those who are on a budget. :)
