“Definitely worth another visit”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We stayed at Nanuk's for a couple of days and absolutely adored it. It was great to take a few days off from Bali, which is where we stay and away from hawkers haggling you every step on the island. On a quieter side of Lembongan, Nanuk's stands out with it's simplicity and hospitality. Very friendly staff and an atmosphere which we thoroughly enjoyed. We found the rooms to be a bit damp and humid, however this is something which can be easily ignored when we wake up to smiles all around every morning. Definitely worth another visit.

Away from Bali's tourist, and sometimes crowded or soulless places, Nanuks Bungalows is a little hidden gem on the island of Lembongan.
It is a wonderful place, where hospitality is in its simplest yet most charming form. There are few bungalows that makes the place very quiet; each bungalow offer for a lot of private space with a deck and a balcony, and privacy, with an outdoor bathroom. Rooms are simple and rustic yet clean and fitted with mosquito nets, fans and aircon. Some will even find them romantic. Staff is very friendly; the food is ok. I did enjoy this place.

We stayed at Nanuks for a week at the end of September 2012 and adored it. This side of Lembongan is much quieter than the main strip but we just used it as a base whilst we went off diving to different parts of the surrounding island each day and we preferred the more laid back vibe this side had to offer.

There was also a beautiful white sand beach hidden just behind the plot of land behind Nanuks that is yet to be developed (you have to have a bit of a clamber around to find the track down to it but it's well worth it - much nicer than Mushroom Beach as not full of boats - we had it all to ourselves)

Nanuks itself was just adorable. The staff were really friendly and there was a real family based sense of morale with everyone working together to make this a peaceful little getaway. We had a traditional bungalow with the open air bathroom, a row back from the ones at the front of the pool. The room itself is very simple but perfectly finished with a large and comfortable bed (and cute little flower petals sprinkled on it for our arrival). The balcony was also nice but the highlight for us was the open air bathroom - there is nothing quite like showering under the stars and even in the daytime its a pretty awesome experience. It was all very nicely finished and they cleaned for us throughout our stay.

The pool itself is very nice - it isn't massive but you can't really expect big pools on Lembongan - it's an island off of an island and it also isn't very eco friendly to be digging something in the ground the size of a small waterpark. The gardens surrounding the pool are filled with exotic flowers and beautifully maintained by the staff and there is a scattering of tables overlooking this area so you can take breakfast/lunch or dinner right by the pool - very ice in the evening with the garden lights on.

The restaurant itself offers a small but very nice menu - the yellow curry behind superb and the free brekky of banana pancakes is pretty nice. They were in the process of expanding the restaurant and bar area when we were visiting so the menu may also expand.

If you are after a relaxing and beautifully tended retreat then Nanuk's is it - great for couples and families with babies or very young children just wanting to get away from it all. Loved it.

When we first arrived, we were a bit concerned about the location as we could not quite ascertain how far we were from the beach - but it wasn't long before we realised what a great find this was. This small hotel was made complete by the pool we pretty much had to ourselves for much of the time. Wayan the hotel manager did a great job of ensuring we were comfortable in every way and arranged a fabulous snorkeling experience with 'Nyomen' who took great care of us and really knew his stuff. We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins as well as an amazing array of tropical fish and coral on our outing. Their Indonesian breakfasts was fantastic as were all the meals at Nanuk's. The staff in the kitchen seemed to make their food with 'love' and there was nothing we didn't enjoy eating. We were also surrounded by a great range of restaurants and would highly recommend Molamola located at the end of Mushroom beach only a short walk away. All the staff went out of their way to provide service of the highest quality - particularly Nyomen, Jacob & Ookie. It was great to support a Balinese owned business and we appreciated the friendliness from the owner and his wife also. We'll be back absolutely!

We went to Bali for a 1 week diving and stayed with a big diving group at Nanuks Bungalows. Beautiful place, very friendly staff, excellent food in the evenings. Nice little pool and relax area. Bathrooms and toilets were different from anywhere else we have been so far. Nothing wrong with it, just different.

We were extremely lucky in our diving experience too - we have seen lots of manta rays, mola-mola (sunfish), sting rays, dolphins, and many more species...

Last day before we departed we did a trip around the island on scooters, the hotel staff showed us around. It was wonderful. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful week at Nanuk's. We came to Lembongan to scuba dive and we had our 10 months old baby with us. The stuff was so friendly and helpful. They often played with our child when we went to have dinner and they always had a big smile on their face, really warm-hearted people - all of them. We really felt ourselves more than welcome. And on our last day me and my husband went scuba diving together and one member of the staff looked after our child for a extra cost. We felt very comfortable to leave her with her for a couple of hours and everything went well. Thank you Ilu! <3

At Nanuk's Bungalows there's a nice little pool area, beautiful huts, delicious food, nice people -staff (including the owners) and other travellers. A perfect place for a relaxing holiday!

And for scuba divers - Lembongan has a wonderful sites and a lot of things to see. I saw a lot of Manta Rays, a Mola mola and a nurse shark, just to mention a few! I can highly recommend that place!

Nanuks was a real gem of a find. We stayed there with a group of 23, which can be taxing for any small operation, however the staff were always friendly and accommodating. The rooms were very clean, but also very basic. There was only one bedside table, so suitcases were placed on the floor and lived out of for the week. That's not a problem, but something you should be aware of. The bed was very comfortable and, again, very clean. The outside bathroom was...interesting. I liked it, but it was very different. The restaurant had very good food. Grounds were clean and well maintained. No complaints at all.

One thing to be aware of is these are definitely rustic bungalows and close together. If you are particular about outside noises, you may be disappointed. We were fortunate to have quiet neighbors, but some of our group told of hearing neighbors snore. You can imagine what it would be like next to an amorous couple or people who are not considerate. We had hut #1, which bordered the dirt road and one other hut. I liked it because I preferred the noise of scooters and people walking over nighttime noises from neighbors. Again, this should not be a deal breaker, but something to be aware of.

I highly recommend taking the staff up on their offer to take you around on scooters and show you the islands. They provide a good insider view of life on the island. Well worth the small monetary tip.

Room Tip: Hut #1 has neighbors on only one side, however it does have the dirt road which you get the occasion...
