We absolutely LOVED staying at Kainalu and can't wait to book again next year! It is in the perfect location for restaurants and surfing, you have your own private piece of beach, the sunsets from the top floor are 10/10, and it is just a beautiful traditional Balinese Villa! If you are after 5 star amenities and service, then perhaps you'd be better off at a 5 star resort, but if you are after a traditional experience and an amazing spot all to yourself, this place is for you and your family. Our kids (we had two families staying which was great!) had the time of their lives making friends with all the local kids each afternoon and there were even tears on the last day because they became so close!!! We are SO glad we gave them this REAL experience rather than a fancy resort because they learnt so much and said it was their favourite holiday ever! We can't wait to return and would recommend it to any family who wants a traditional Indonesian holiday.
This place was perfect for my family with the surf in front of the house and a boat ready to take the surfers to the surf breaks.Fantastic Cafes along the beach.Kadeck (the man looking after the house) was so helpful with snorkelling and motor bikes.
Hi this would be a great place if you have you have in mind backpackers or very budget accommodation. Great location right on the beach in between the restaurants. Great place for breakfast next door. Unfortunately the shower drain needs cleaning as the shower filled up with water and had to turn it off or risk seeing the toilet brush float by...
Small Swimming pool at the back of the property with rubbish dump at the other side of the wall so not ideal but there is a beautifull sea.
A lot of noice from cats and dogs at night time but not the property's fault just a lot of roaming animals parked on the beach.
Unfortunately left a week early as could not run our business with the unreliable wifi which did not work most of the time
Kids loved playing on the beach right in front of the property and safe beach for swimming.
We rented the entirety of Kainalu Villa and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We loved the architecture of the building and the bedrooms were simply decorated, clean and functional. The villa is ideally located on the beachfront, perfect for looking out at the ocean life and just relaxing our days away. The surfers in our group loved the proximity of the big waves and we all enjoyed balmy evenings and the sound of the ocean at night. Restaurants abound! We had some excellent meals, two to note were Tigerlilly and the Hai Bar and Grill (for a larger birthday celebration). The building and facilities are quite rustic and will need some attention in years to come...but it met our needs for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
We stayed with our family of 5. Kids aged 7,10 and 14.
A great location at the end of the bay, a small pool at the back of the house, great view from the upstairs balcony. The place was very open and my wife was a bit worried about sleeping downstairs and security, but all the people around us were very friendly, our kids made friends with some of the local kids. Two great surf breaks right in front of the house - we used the supplied paddle board and surf skis to get to the breaks though they do have holes in them and slowly fill with water - the blue canoes fill with water very quickly...
The beach is right on the reef - quite rocky underfoot.
Great food right next door, as for Karl and he will set you up with tours to Manta Bay, scooters, stand up paddle boards if you need.
There is another review mentioning a hot tub - but we never noticed it had one...
A little noisy at night, but quite comfy beds and adequate facilities.
We were a group of 8 staying at the villa.
Everything was perfect, the booking process easy. Our boat transfers were prebooked for us.
The villa has 5 bedrooms which you lock individually with a massive veranda perfect for watching the sunset. We could see the sea from our bed!
We would highly recommend this villa.
We booked this property through Trip Advisor some time ago for a family reunion. The booking went well and my numerous pre-arrival questions were always answered promptly by Julie, the property manager.
The property location is exactly what the picture shows. The beach is right at the doorstep and the water 10 meters away. The view from the second floor balcony is absolutely stunning! The surf can be heard day and night and restaurants abound on the beach (we ate all of our breakfasts and most of our lunches right next door at Puri Nusa, as well as getting massages, renting motorbikes and booking a snorkle tour. Ask for Karl, he is very friendly and helpful).
Okay, so the house is comprised of 5 units each with ensuite. We had the entire house, but it is possible to have less than that, which could mean sharing the common areas with others not of your group.
The two front rooms on the main floor are reasonably modern with king beds and are air conditioned. They open onto a common patio and foyer to the upstairs. The beach starts at the edge of the patio. The two upstairs rooms are less modern and are open at the ceiling with fans. Good mosquito netting is in place. One room has two twins and one has a king. There are fridges in all of these rooms. The upstairs rooms open onto a common covered deck which is complete with several couches, chairs and a table and chair set. There are shades to drop as well as rain shields to drop if necessary. As I have said, the view is stunning!
The pool is in the back and there is a bedroom that opens onto the pool patio. It too has an ensuite and king bed. There is a ceiling fan and windows on two sides giving it a very good cross draft, especially at night.
The pool gets the morning sun, but by the early afternoon it is in the shade which is great! There are small tables and chairs in front of each of the downstairs rooms and several loungers with upholstery. All in all, quite comfortable to sleep in and for outdoor leisure.
There is a market within a 5 minute walk of the house that sells all the basics including beer and some Smirnoff products.
Overall, we were quite comfortable in the house. It was great for us all to be together and be able to cross paths simply by coming and going. It is an easy house to live in, but is by no means high end. If you want high end, look elsewhere, but for good, comfortable accomodation, especially if you take the entire house, this is good value, and if you are unhappy with anything, just grab a beer, gaze off the top deck, and all will be well again within seconds!!
