Worth travelling so far. Had a good view of Mt Sikunir sunrise. Sikadang crater, colorful lake was great. Suggest to stay in Dieng area rather than wonosobo.

If you love nature, spirituality and history, the Dieng Plateau is the perfect place to visit for you. There are many temples, places to trek around, vulcanic craters, shopping stalls, little warungs, and you can discover places where people still use for meditation and other spiritual purposes. Highly recommended for families and friends!

This entire area apparently rains a lot all the time (told by our driver) which is only ideal if you visit very early morning. We came here around 12 noon and it was pissing down like it was going to flood. Anyways, we still managed to walk around with our umbrellas although we still got wet from the tilted rain. Yes it was very cool temperature, yes there were tiny temples with mountain view surrounding us. But it was just nothing special or maybe we just couldnt see it being special. Ticket for foreigner is of course such a rip off compared to locals which is a huge problem that you can see happening in Yogyakarta and the rest of Central Java. It makes you feel like these people dont want foreigners to visit their country. If you drive past this place yes go and visit but if not, dont go out of your way to this place because i dont think it's worth the time.

After visiting Borobudur we headed to the Dieng Plateau which takes about 2.5 hours. The roads are narrow and have large pot holes in places so it can be slow going but scenery is beautiful and interesting. As you get closer to the plateau and see the terraces for vegetable growing, potatoes, cabbages and spring onions galore, it is worth the long drive. The temperature was cooler here than in Yogya, our drivers were both wearing jackets but I enjoyed the few degrees difference and didn't need a cardigan.
There is a Rp 2000 entrance fee to visit the area, then additional fees to visit other attractions in the area. We visited the Telogo lake, Sikidang crater and Arjuna temple complex for a cost of Rp. 100,000 for 2 people. This included entrance fee of 20,000 for the Dieng plateau theatre as there is a minimum requirement of 5 tickets before they will run the film but the short film is quite good and worth the small price. We were fortunate on the day we visited that it was sunny with no cloud cover so the lake was stunning with the different hues. The crater for me was the least impressive but it was still cool to see the water bubbling from the ground but be aware the smell of sulphur can be over powering even with a face mask. There are 5 small temples that make up the Arjuna temple complex which were well maintained and in good condition.

We bought some snacks at the theatre of mushroom and potato in a crispy batter and these were very good. Long drive back to Yogya of about 4 hours stopping at a tea plantation just to see the rows and rows of plants and then stopped at Warung Gunung Sigandul coffee shop for some civet coffee with delicious coconut sugar for Rp 30,000.

All in all a day very well spent in the clouds with amazing scenery. Just bear in mind female toilet facilites at the various attractions are not what you find in Australia.

Curious about the top of Sikunir and the biggest Potatoes land (can be big and heavy up to 5 kg each), I finally make it to see with my own us. Traveled over the weekend with friends, it's obviously a must place to see if you stop by at Wonosobo, Central Java.

The weather are cold, even at July - August, it can be froze until 0 degree. Be sure to bring you hat cap, gloves & jacket. If you wanna see the sunrise, you have to wake up at 4 am. From the entrance, you still have to walk 300 meters above, between cold and a bit climbing, it was making my heart beats faster. But no worry, its so worth.

There are two based on top, seek for the top one. Rest a bit with fresh air all over, and watched slowly but sure, the sun rise comes. You can also see the clouds pass through like waterfall. Awesome!

Beside on top Sikunir, there are also Arjuna Temple Complex. Better come in the afternoon, you might see a misty come over too closed all the temples complex. A bit scary though.

My favorite is Telaga Warna, seek different path and you can get a great view from above. Check my pictures ;)
