“Just an ok spot.”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I've read the other reviews and they are pretty accurate. Nice pool with a slide which we enjoyed but there is no beach here. Very unfortunate. The pool does offer a swim up bar. The ocean water wasn't very clear on the day we were there either. The lagoon is pretty cool. Check it out.

This place is a joke I cannot begin to say how bad it was, boat trip from hell to get to this crappy so called "resort" all these pictures are so fake, the beach is horrible and almost non existent, the service was the worst I've ever exerienced at any hotel, even a crappy motel in America is better than here and they price their room at $375usd per night??? Who are they kidding this is worth $99 at most!!!

We took the speed boat ferry to Cocoliso for a day trip because we were told you can't go to Cartagena without visiting the islands. The water quality around the islands is pretty clear, a thousand times better than the murky ocean water you find on the beaches in Cartagena. We weren't looking for a high end resort because we were on a budget. This place fit us fine in that regard. We got the impression that it's a popular destination for day trips for middle class folks from Colombia. The pool was nice and clean, well maintained. I read some of the previous reviews from a few years ago and I can attest to the fact that the pool is much better now than it was when we went. Plus they have a second pool about 2 feet deep that's perfect for kids. They also have a playground for children. There are plenty of hammocks beneath palm trees. You'll want to grab one as soon as you get off the boat and are done with the brief orientation. The lunch they serve to the day trippers wasn't spectacular. But it was fine, breaded fish with a tasty coconut rice and plantains and water melon, standard fair. The beach is extremely narrow but they have it set up well with lounge chairs and umbrellas. The water as I mentioned was clean and warm. We were there with our two kids, ages 3 and 5 months, and it was great for a day trip for a family. We spent the extra cash to take the boat ride over the island aquarium where you see lots of local fish, sharks and sea turtles. They also have the ability for you to pet dolphins which is fun for kids. You can stay here overnight or longer but at the time that we were there, early November, it seemed like there were very few guests. Again, it's not a high end place. I did get a look at one of the rooms and they seemed well maintained and clean. Not luxurious, just comfortable. You'll find plastic stackable chairs in the cafeteria and around the pool and hammocks rather than nicer furniture. But we weren't looking for high end. And we enjoyed the fact that we were the only Americans around. In fact I think everyone there at the time was Colombian. The staff was nice, professional and helpful to a degree. I would caution that if you have a fear of water or aren't keen on high speed boats you might want to do a shorter trip on a slower ferry to a different island. The high speed boats seat about 40 people. While they seemed perfectly safe, modern and operated by an experienced, well established tour company, it still has an air of danger to it because of the speed and choppy ride. Our kids loved the adventure before they actually fell asleep for the last half hour. Keep in mind, during rainy season, you might get caught in a tropical downpour on the ride back in the afternoon. But that comes with the territory. Also, all the locals who were taking the day trip with us were extremely nice and interacted with our children. Some were families. Others were young adults out for a good time. But it wasn't a wild crowd. Obviously, I can't say that'll always be the case but perhaps it's an indication of the kind of folks who day trip here.

Cocoliso was recommended as a good beach break for a couple of nights by staff at our hotel in Cartagena's old city. Once we got there, we couldn't figure out why. For the price, the rooms and grounds of the hotel could use a complete overhaul. Everything is probably 25 years old and worn. The beach is basically nonexistent, with a few lounge chairs propped up on a concrete wall. The pool is ok, but nothing special. The room, though clean, reeked of bleach. The linens were scratchy, the furniture falling apart, there was no hot water and the power cut out intermittently. For nearly $300 per night, the quality was very poor. It's supposedly all-inclusive, but they charge additional high prices for drinks - even bottled water. To charge $4000 cop for water at an all-inclusive in a place where the tap is unsafe and there's no other source of drinkable water is a scam. Once you're on the island, you're stuck there until 3pm the next day with no beach, a gross room, expensive drinks and nothing to do.

All that said, the staff was wonderful. We almost felt bad to leave after one night because we didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. From the front desk to the restaurant staff to the housekeepers, the service was friendly, warm, and accommodating. It's just a shame they have such wonderful people at such an overpriced, awful facility.

I ended up at Cocoliso Resort with my friend after a tour of Colombia. We were very tired after sleeping in tents and shelters, we needed some resort-like couple of days. We decided to stay at the Cocoliso and we were not let down. Although we were the only 2 guests sleeping there (august is a low season period in Colombia), staff looked after us perfectly making sure that nothing was missing. This resort is on an island as part of the Islas del Rosario. Every comment on sea and beach are useless...just paradise. The hotel is very good, the room was huge and with every comfort. Food is nice and the chef let us decide what he should cook. We could have beers and cocktails at anytime. Simply great, I would definitely go back.

We went to this hotel basically after finding over the interne that this was the most advertised and price accessible hotel in Las Islas del Rosario.

It is a big complex in comparison with the other hotels on the islands.

It is not a 5 star hotel but will do the job for a night or two max!

There is no beach at the hotel; instead you will find a nice pool and amazing sea pool, worth the try.

In the hotel they offer mini diving course which are amazing, recommended!

Food is also really good.

We paid 550.000 COP for two for one night; it included transportation and all meals.

The rooms are kind of old but are ok for sleeping.

In order to get there you have to get at 8am to the port and you will return the next day at 3pm if you stay.

Overall it is good for a night, worth for its cost

Really felt ripped off and like in prison. Don't believe the nice pictures from the brochures even photoshop would not explain the difference...no beach, dirty swimming pool. We didn't dare to try the lunch and decided instead to quickly runaway from this place.
