Good location near Place Stephanie, great for shopping around Louise, run by a lovely helpful couple who work very hard. The accommodation is a bit run down, but it is cheap! The stairs could be difficult if you were old and had really big bags, but there is a lift to all but the top floor (which is where I was). My room had a sitting room as well as a bedroom, and the ensuite had a bath. Decor is shabby, but I was comfortable enough, once I had stopped worrying about the possiblity of escaping from a fire (the bedoom only has a Velux window). My sister's room on the first floor smelled like the previous occupant (or the cleaner) was a smoker, but she was moved to another room when we asked if it was possible. Breakfast was basic, but for 76 euros (first floor with shower) and 86 euros (me in the attic with bath and sitting room), it is probably the best value in the city.

Room Tip: First floor back probably quietest or the attic if you dont worry about getting out in case of fire...

We booked on the recommendation of a local and we weren't disappointed. The relaxed style of the owners made it a relaxing place to be. Everything was simple and straightforward and if we need to return to Brussels we would not be looking elsewhere.

We stayed in the hotel for only one night..but we really enjoyed the stay. the owners were super friendly and spoke very good english. The hotel has his very own charme...one of the nicest hotel i stayed in. The room was very nice and big!
The breakfast was typical french. Croissant and marmelade, plus tea, coffee and orange juice...totaly fine and yummy. I would recommend that hotel totaly.

Well situated in a quiet street in Ixelles, convenient for trams and within walking distance of Matonge and the city centre. Run by a very nice couple who are friendly without being intrusive. Nicely furnished, comfortable beds, good breakfast. I'll definitely stay there again the next time I'm in Brussels.

I considered Residence Rembrandt to be a real find in a city where accomodation has become quite expensive. It's on a quiet residential street near Place Stephanie, which is a fashionable shopping area. About 4 blocks from the Metro and 2 blocks from the 94 tram line. I did not feel unsafe walking in the area even in late evening.
Rembrandt is a small place and owners (managers?) live on site; they are quietly attentive and very pleasant; only the husband speaks any English. All the other guests were Belgian or French. There is a tiny elevator, around which winds a narrow staircase. The stairs can be a bit treacherous (they're very narrow) so if you're not too sure-footed, take the lift.
Rooms are modest but very clean: high ceiling, big window with excellent room-darkening shade, small chandelier, comfortable bed, phone but no TV or clock. Big pictures on the walls, which ranged from original oils to framed jigsaw puzzles of masterpieces. Somehow it all worked. I chose a room with shower and sink. The WC was one floor down, which I did not find to be a problem at all. They also have rooms with full baths.
Continental breakfast included a really good croissant, crusty bread, rusks, cream cheese, jams, etc and a nice pot of dark roast coffee. Served in a petite breakfast room. Mmmm.

March 2009: this was our second stay here after an absence of a few years. It was just as we remembered: a small hotel with friendly management, where you feel like a guest, not just a customer. It has great charm and character, with lots of antique pictures and furniture. It is in a quiet, convenient location, with nearby restaurants. Our room was stylish and comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom that worked well enough but was small (and those wanting state of the art equipment would be disappointed). We will certainly stay there again if we return to Brussels.

Essentially this is not a hotel but a B&B, it is a large house right off Avenue Louise a 5 minute walk from the metro, it's a great location and very cheap, I booked it directly through their website www.hotel-rembrandt.be and my room cost 45 euros a night with shower and basin but no toilet in the room (see pictures).

A continental breakfast is included in the price and the staff are very polite, the hotel was really warm all the time even though Brussels was freezing which was great, it was double glazed and you could control the central heating in your room. The shower was very powerful despite being on the top floor however took ages to warm up, as another reviewer described everything is fairly old but immaculately clean.

It would have received 5 stars as you cannot complain for the price however the bed really let this place down - it is SO soft that it was not very comfortable, I know it is not a hotel but it is nice to have a bed that is not older than I am!

I would recommend this place, it was a fraction of the price of other central places and I would stay there again.
