Description: Blue Elephant Thai restaurant just south of Brussels City was the first of the celebrated group that may eventually take over the world -- to general applause. This is a chic Thai fantasy, an Eden of exotic flora to take you far from the busy metropolis outside. During the day the stunningly-appointed dining room is naturally lit from the skylight above, while in the evening candles and lamps take over. It is lushly decorated with exotic plants, beautiful orchids, Buddhas, Thai woodwork, comfy bamboo chairs, and smiling Thai-costumed waitstaff.

Certsinly it is more 'authentic' than ordinary Thai eateries. However, there are some other Thai restaurants in Brussels with much better quality at more reasonable prices. Service is nice but a lityle bit too pushy when it comes to consumption. It takes ages to get your meal...

Great buffet, Thai staff couldn't be more helpful. A bit cramped downstairs and completely out of it upstairs.

If you have been lately to Thailand, don't go! The staff is friendly but does not make up for untasty cold food!

This restaurant is part of an "international" chain and serves "almost authentic" Thai food. The building where the restaurant I located is large, old and in need of refurbishing. It smells faintly of mould and the décor is tacky, fake-exotic. Tables are small and chairs rickety.

However, the menu is small and the degree of "hotness" truthful to genuine Thai food. We ordered a starter of rather banal spring rolls, which were served in the customary 4 pieces. Then we ordered a chicken salad and a green curry beef, served in a coconut. Both dishes were really hot, in a pleasant way. During the meal we drank French red wine of good quality

Service was a bit slow and messy and the final bill very expensive. On the whole, it is a pleasant experience, but considering the price they could make an effort with service and décor.

I went to the blue Elephant for a Sunday brunch. The food was tasty, fresh and abundant. Everything else was quite horrible. You might think "what do I care about the rest if the food is good". Normally I would agree, unless "the rest" gets in the way of letting you enjoy the food. The main problem here is that the venue is small, crowded and very badly designed. The outcome is that the whole place turns into one crowded conga line. Everybody bumping into everybody else - those waiting to be seated with those cuing for food with kitchen stuff with waiters. I had to queue four times for my food, each time for fifteen minutes and more. The seating was so cramped that you had to balance your plate precariously and that after three sets of stairs. Some of the food is clearly intended to be hand held but there were no paper napkins, nor finger bowls or wet wipes to be had. Being an Israeli I had fought in four wars in my life. The battle for food at the Blue Elephant was the hardest of them all. When I returned to my car I had to change my shirt - it was all messy with sweat and food stains. Mind you, this not a cheap place, but nobody, absolutely nobody should manage a restaurant in such a shameful manner. I had the impressions that the clientele contained quite a few returning costumers. They come for the food, but they shouldn't. Only if the clients vote with their feet will they force the management to find a more suitable venue and offer better service together with their fine food.
