We have been married 12 years and been to many nice places for our anniversary. Considering the views, the castle, location to Rothenburg, and the staff, this is the most romantic hotel we have ever stayed at. Our room was not numbered but had a name, Else. That tells you something.

We decided to stay in Colmberg castle for a night for the experience. The room was very nice and comfortable. Nice and warm too, so don't worry about a castle being cold. The walls were a bit thin though, so we got to hear how much the couple in the next room enjoyed their evening.
We had both dinner and breakfast at the castle, which were good, but as only 2, we were seated out in the "patio enclosure" which I think took away from the feel a bit. Food was good, but not the best of our trip.
Walking around the castle was great and you really felt like you had stepped back in time.
A word of caution; the lobby is not open all the time, so if you arrive a bit early like we did, getting in and out can be a little tricky.

The castle itself is gorgeous. The grounds and outside patio are wonderful. We stayed two nights and found the front desk to be more than helpful and concerned about our needs. However, the room was pretty small (3rd floor), and my biggest complaint was the beds were very hard. I am told this is a German thing...and so far it has proven to be true (3 different hotels, 3 hard beds), but this was by far the hardest. We ate two nights in the castle restaurant...the first night my companions dish was inedible to him (deer breast, or something like it)...he didn't take but two bites. My italian wierschintzel (yes, you heard that right) was okay, but not worth the money, and really - I would have rather had something else. The second night the food was better, but not memorable. Again, the room and bath were VERY small. It was fairy-tale picturesque, however, and the drive to Rothenburg ob der Tauber was very short.

Thank you for your review. It is a pity that you have not chosen the right thing in the choice of food for your taste. The breast stuffed deer and the Mediterranean cordon bleu (it is not a Wiener schnitzel!) Are one of our most popular dishes of our returning guests.

If your going to Rothenberg ob der Tauber then this is the place to stay! Rothenberg can be done in 1 day there is no need to stay there. 2 hrs from Munich. We stayed at castle, did Rothenberg in a day then went to Frankfurt[ About 2 hrs] for there museumfest [annual]. Many peoples best rated castle to stay in Germany. English well spoken, late night arrival with ice cream on silver platter in courtyard, great views, great breakfast all for 105$ [August 2012]

If you will be spending time in this part of Germany, you must stay here to complete the experience. My wife and I stayed in the Shon Else suite (pardon spelling) and loved it. The staff is all very kind and helpful, the breakfast perfect, and the view, awesome! The restaurant is fantastic; trust me! If you plan to to tour Rothenberg ob der Tauber, this is the perfect place to stay.

We came here to celebrate a family event with 20 guests. We could not have chosen a better place: When you reach the castle you enjoy a fantastic view over the franconian rural surrounding. Stepping into the castle you find yourself set back in time. We were there in winter. In the entrance a huge stuffed bear watched over a warming fire burning in an open fire place. A wooden staircase leads you to the upper rooms , beautifully renovated and amazing in their beauty. There is a little chappel, where ,as we were told, young couples choose to receive the blessing for a bright future together.
The service was excellent, the meals delicious from first course to desert very well prepared. When we were shown the hotel rooms (we did not stay over night) we simply could not stop admiring the fine work of combining medieval walls and windows and furniture with modern commodities.
One thing is for sure: next time we will plan our trip so that will stay over night in Colmberg.

We booked for 1 night and soon after we arrived we extended our stay for 1 more night, I just wish we could have stayed more.
The place is simply amazing. Very warm welcome from the owners and the hotel staff.
breakfast was very very good, and the dinner at the in-house restaurant was great! nNo less.
The location is wonderful, you will need a car though.
The rooms are just out of the ordinary and it is not our first time in a castle, nor our 2nd, we made it a habit to stay at least one night in a castle wherever we vist, this something else.
We were 1 mature couple, my wife and me, and 1 young couple, our sone and his wife, we enjoyed our stay very very much.
Christiane is a very nice person very helpful far and beyond the burg things, travel advise, tips for travel etc. I just wish we could have stayed more. We will make an effgort to do it next time.
