“Not by choice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

We were invited to Shimla by friends who love the place so please do bear that in mind in order to provide some balance.

The 'restaurant' despite not being overly busy, felt crowded with tables too close to one another for comfort and relaxed chat.

Service was slow and the food was at best, average. I have to say that i would not have visited by choice and will certainly avoid in the future especially given Kinver's other superior offering.

“Friendly service, nice food and good atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

Stopped off her whilst in Kinver with our niece and we enjoyed a lovely meal.

Chicken tikka went down very well for her and we both enjoyed our meals.

Waiters were friendly and it seemed very busy, which is always a good sign.

Would eat here again when we're back down this way.

“Friendly- that's the service and to your wallet!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

I've been visiting on and off for 5 years and it has been consistently good. After not visiting for a while and getting fed up with the hour long waits and some well known chains, we decided to give this place a go again. We would go much more often if we lived closer (it's about 15 miles from where we live).
Admittedly, it's not much to look at from the outside and you could easily miss it. However, I was impressed by their 5 star hygiene award which was proudly displayed in their humble window. On arrival, we are always greeted by friendly waiters; even at peak times on a Saturday. Yes, it's busy but you never feel like an inconvenience. We were shown to a table upstairs and given a few minutes to decide on our drinks - a diet coke and a rose wine. Both arrived promptly along with poppadoms that we had ordered. The rose (Piat d'or) was great; something that Indian restaurants usually aren't renowned for. By the way, you can take your own drinks; even though they're licensed.
I ordered a tikka masala and my partner a tawa (a curry on a skillet) - both were delicious and very generous in portion size. The masala was thick and tasty, without being overly creamy. The chicken tikka pieces were cooked to perfection. Let's just say that both plates were left clean! We also ordered pilau rice and a garlic and coriander nan with REAL garlic pieces, not just flavoured oil. Thee only thing I probably wouldn't rave about are the chips- a bit overcooked and dry for my liking. But who cares about chips when their specialities are so great! Our waiters were friendly, smiley and just lovely- a real credit to their business!
As stuffed at this point, we didn't order dessert or coffees. The bill arrived swiftly, but with no indication that we had to move quickly. The bill represented excellent value for money- 4 poppadums, 2 mains, 2 sides, nan bread and 2 drinks for £22!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian cuisine. We will not be leaving it as long last time! You're lucky if you live by this place.

“Indian delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

Whilst in Kinver during a trip on a narrow boat and noticed that Shimla had a buffet on the following evening(Sunday) so decided that to visit on our return trip.We are so glad we did.-the restaurant is small and was very busy I'd recommend booking particularly in summer. The staff were really friendly and although we had to wait about ten minutes for our table they kept us updated telling us that they were waiting for a particular table to vacate so we would be more comfortable away from the door. There were a couple of large family parties in but even so nothing was the too much trouble and service remained top notch. The buffet had a great selection of starters including tikka chicken pieces ,onion baji and pakora. The mains included chicken patia, vegetables bhuna and chicken saag all for the bargain price of£7.90.The only downside was all the meat dishes were chicken but were so delicious there were no complaints..If you love Indian food don't miss this place.
