Three nights, very comfortable room, stunning views over the Rhone valley. On the expensive side of "value for money". Tea and coffee making facilities in the room - CHF 1 per person typifies the attitude. Good centre for interesting walks.

This was our forth time of staying at Chalet Royal, Really enjoyed our stay so convenient for the slopes and ski hire shop just across the road. If you can ttry to stay the vally side, beautiful view of the Rhone valley, The road side was a bit noisy (not with traffic) but revellers coming out of the nightclub or bar. We had our window open but if it was shut then we probably wouldn't have heard them. Breakfast continental plenty of choice but no hot option only hard boiled egg. We did half board option, food was ok not the best, but not terrible either. The salad buffet was lovely. Local wine lovely too and not too expensive chf 32 a bottle St Leanard.

Room Tip: Try and get Valley side for the amazing fire

Hotel was comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful, but if like us your kids are grown up and you wanted a little peace and quiet in the evenings, don't whatever you do come to this hotel. There is no sitting room for adults only, to have a quiet drink in the evening, which means that the kids from hell are allowed to run riot in the dining room, bar area and only sitting area. We had to go back to our room each night after our meal just to get away. Also if you are looking for an up to date ski-ing area then forget Veysonnaz. They are at least 20 years behind the rest of the ski areas in Europe with far too many button lifts and T bars. The piste map is not very well drawn up and it is very difficult getting over to the other valleys. Not a place we will be revisiting I'm afraid, although the views are spectacular.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get a room that overlooks the valley - has great views and quieter than on the front o...

This is a rather simple but comfortable hotel in Veysonnaz. The check-in staff was very helpful and friendly. She spoke fluent English when dealing with me and helped me to book taxi for the day I checked out.
My room had a 'street view' for the cheaper rate. It was ok but it did not have a black out curtain and the street light may be too bright for some to sleep. The furniture was a bit plain and boring. The bathroom had minimal toiletteries but was clean enough. There was a fridge / minibar with the usual inflated price tag. I was surprised that they even charged CHF 1 for tea and coffee ! (Lipton tea bags and Nescafe instant coffee).
In terms of hotel facilities, the dining room had a panoramic view of the valley which was nice when having breakfast. There was a playroom / TV room with a nice fire place. There was also a 'spa' with steam room and sauna but at a price (CHF 15), which I did not use. The hotel wifi was expensive too.
Breakfast was 'continental buffet' style - cold meats, cheese, cereal, juices, tea / coffee, bread / rolls / pastries. It was adequate.
All in all, a decent comfortable hotel in a nice ski area.

We stayed at the Chalet Royal on a ski package with Crystal Ski. The location is great and our room was deluxe, large with a good view of the valley. Our problems started when we arrived in the dining room at 8pm on our first evening and as it was full we were placed in the TV lounge, children's play area which adjoined the dining room. At about 8.45 the children started running past our table to the toys and it became very noisy. Their parents occasionally had a look to see what their children were doing. We later politely asked if we could be in the dining room the next night. On the second evening we were placed at the same table and after dinner the children started running backwards and forwards to the toys and eventually they were doing cartwheels and handstands near our table. The noise was unacceptable and again the parents did not properly supervise their children. Eventually we approached the reception staff and asked them to come and have a look at what was going on and again we asked to be moved into the dining room the next evening. We suggested that it would be a better idea for the families with children to be placed at the end of the dining room towards the TV lounge where they could keep an eye on their children whilst still sitting at their tables and their response was that the families liked sitting where they were in the centre of the dining room! The staff's intransigence was astonishing. We noticed lots of other tables watching the noisy children and noted a few people were moved into the dining room on subsequent evenings. We were moved one table away into the dining room and although it was a better table we did still have the children running past our table and at times the noise was deafening with the children upturning a table on one evening.

After that we had no interaction with the staff apart from Hugo, our lovely waiter.

The breakfast was repetitive but thankfully the bread was fresh. The dinners were adequate but they used cheaper ingredients (warm watery soups and gristly beef, pasta, couscous or similar and only on the last evening did we have a choice at the buffet (smoked salmon and salad at last). They also charged one Swiss franc for a cup of tea from the tea tray in the room. In all our years of skiing this was the first time we were charged for making tea in the room. A bottle of wine was a minimum of 33 Swiss francs and the water 8 francs a bottle.

We enjoyed our holiday despite the hotel. On our last morning we left at 6.30 am and the waitress who had set up the breakfast would not even allow us to have a glass of orange juice. That just about summed up the attitude of the Chalet Royal.

We booked a ski vacation in Verbier for early March and chose the Chalet Royal in Veysonnaz because it was roughly half the price of staying in Verbier. Our other option was to stay in Nendaz which would have been unfortunate as the ski runs to that town were closed due to lack of snow.

The Chalet Royal was clean and efficient and occupies a wonderful location. It is less than 100 steps to a gondola lift from which skiers can access the whole of the 4-Valley complex. The views of the Sion Valley and the range of Alps further to the north as seen from the Chalet Royal dining room and many of the guest rooms are simply awesome.

Our particular stay started in a negative way and ended acceptably. Upon arrival we were placed in a room [#17] that looked out directly to a block wall about a dozen feet away that holds up the roadway. Only a small sliver of light filtered between the roadway and the balcony of the unit above us. We decided maybe a visit to the wellness center would put us in a better mood. At this point we discovered that the wellness center is not included in the room rate and instead charges 28CHF [about $30] per person. We had not learned of this from the Chalet Royal’s website nor had we asked about it before hand because our experience is that the wellness center is an included amenity. Next we decided to simply catch up on the world via the internet. At this point we discovered that the Internet too had a charge – 15CHF for 3 hours. The final insult was a note on the in-room coffee that a cup was 1CHF.

The next morning we went to the front desk and pointed out that our reservation said we would be placed in a valley view room. The front desk clerk apologized for the mix-up and assigned us a new room. Housekeeping took care of moving our luggage. Then we went skiing. That afternoon we went to our new room and were delighted with the change. Our whole disposition started to change. So we bought 3 hours of the internet and adopted the rationing methodology recommended by front desk clerk. Still, we could not help noticing a few disappointments here and there. For instance, the hot water ran out one afternoon leaving no option but a cold shower. There was a room for ski boots, but no boot dryers. The TV was a tiny older model; about 14 inches we guessed. There was a separate ski locker at the bottom of the ski run, but when we visited the door was unlocked which left us with concerns about the safety of expensive, non-rental ski equipment.

The Chalet Royal rate included a breakfast and dinner served in a room with a breathtaking view of snowcapped peaks. Breakfast was an adequate buffet for a 3-star property. Dinners were wholesome but lacked any culinary flair which can make Europe such a special experience. Both breakfast and dinner had the feel of quantity over quality sometimes found in cafeterias. Mealtimes were a bit noisy due to the number of young children plus minimal sound absorbing materials.

Chalet Royal was one of the less expensive choices when staying in Verbier. So the value received was fine considering the price we paid [for that locale]. In closing we can be quick to point out that lodging and dining are much less expensive at Colorado Ski Resorts.
