We stayed here for a relaxing break before our wedding. It was everything we hoped it would be. Our room was absolutely gorgeous, the bed was comfy, the breakfast was delicious and Ray and Claire were fantastic hosts.Their restaurant recommendations were outstanding and we had some delicious meals. We ended up not venturing far from the pool as it was so inviting and the view over the hills from it was so perfect, we couldn't imagine anywhere we'd rather be. We also loved the chairs and table outside our room where we sat each evening for an aperitivo to watch the sun go down. It was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable breaks I have ever been on.

We stayed at the end of September for a short break to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversay.
Casa San Ruffino is a beautiful home, lovingly restored by Ray and Claire who really make you feel welcome.
We were greeted on arrival, and warmly welcomed with cold drinks before heading off to admire our room and the views. The room was spotlessly clean, spacious and light with the perfect mix of original character and modern fixtures . The property is set in a quiet area and instantly we felt relaxed and away from it all!
We had lovely breakfast each morning where we were able to take our time, and we chatted to our hosts who offered up plenty of great advice on places to visit, shop or eat, and shared their knowledge of the region with us.
Most days we took a drive out to places recommended to us, then came back after lunch to sunbathe, read, swim, or simply sit and take in the the views, which are stunning.
In our room was a thoughtful list of Resturants complete with directions. Osteria dell'Arco was the resturant we visited on our anniversary recommended by, and kindly booked for us by Claire.
The food and wine was some of the best we have ever had, and we would certainly recommended it to anyone.
Would we go back to Casa San Ruffino? Without a doubt! It was a perect break!

A hotel (or B&B) has to be pretty special for me to book a second stay....and Casa San Ruffino is one of those!

Ray and Claire were just as warm and welcoming as we remembered from our last visit but we also received a special welcome from their new addition, Archie the cat (I'm not a cat person but fell for this little charmer!).

Considering it was October, we were very lucky with the weather, so spent most of the first afternoon sunbathing on the loungers by the pool, with a glass or three of prosecco. I wish all hotel mini-bars were as reasonably priced San Ruffino!!

No matter how many pictures we took of the surrounding countryside we just couldn't capture the stunning landscapes, you just have to see it with your own eyes.

We asked Ray & Claire for some local restaurant recommendations and they were more than happy to suggest a few options - we opted for Osteria dell'Arco in Magliano di Tenna and were very pleased we did.

The owner was great and the food delicious - especially my fillet steak which I watched being cooked on the wood fire not far from our table. The chocolate fondant was heavenly and washed down with a very nice chilled red desert wine, as recommended by the owner.

The next night we tried Osteria dei Fiori - very authentic/rustic Italian dishes and we couldn't believe how reasonable the bill was when it arrived. Restaurants such as these are a good reason to come to Le Marche before too many tourists realise what a beautiful region it is and how cheap the food & wine is!

On our last morning our hosts made it clear that we could have breakfast at a time that suited us, so we had a nice lay in and enjoyed looking out over the rolling hills from the comfort of our bed.

All the rooms have the same incredible view so I can't say I'd recommend one other another.

We (reluctantly!) left feeling relaxed and recharged, ready to face the craziness of London once more.

We stayed in early September for a short break and despite wet weather we had a fantastic trip. Casa San Ruffino is perfect in every way, chic yet still homely. Claire and Ray are fantastic they seem to have just got it right.

Whilst we didn't get to use te beautiful pool due to rain, there was enough for us to do around the very non tourist region- it did allow us to takea lot longer at breakfast, lunch and dinner which really wasn't a chore with local dining options and the home made breakfasts

Top place and I'm sure we'll be heading back soon.

We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversay at Casa San Ruffino for 3 mights in late August, 2012. We arrived at Rome and picked up our car for a two week tour of the Marche Region of Italy. Within 3 hours, we were in the pool. The cool and fresh swimming experience was complemented by the stunning, amazing, views of the Le Marche landscape. We applaud Ray and Claire for the tasteful and artistic work they have done to create this truly unique boutique bed and breakfast. We enjoyed the wholesome breakfasts, and especially appreciated the kindness and good cheer with which Ray and Claire greeted us each morning. They couldn't have been more helpful in recommending local restaurants, drives, scenic villages, and talking to us about life in Italy in this region. We want to thank them for helping to make our anniversay a special occasion we will never forget. Connie and Thomas, USA

We stayed at Casa San Ruffino in early August and had a great holiday. The setting is fantastic and house tastefully restored. The gardens and pool were beautiful, over looking several hill top villages. Ray and Claire were incredibly helpful and friendly. They were always on hand with restaurant tips, suggestions for days out and Olympics updates!

If you're travelling to Le Marche, you won't find a better place to stay. It's perfectly located for easy trips to Loreto, Sirollo, Ascoli Piceno, Amandola and Macerata (check out Trattoria da Ezio's for a friendly place to eat straight out of the '50s)! There are lots of restaurants nearer to the house but you really shouldn't miss Osteria Dell'Arco for excellent pasta and meat dishes.

Thanks again to Ray and Claire (and Archie.....?!)

We stayed here in the middle of a seven-week tour of Italy. If you want relaxation and quiet, this is the place to stay. Claire and Ray were very helpful with advice on the lovely neighbouring towns and the best restaurants ... which all proved to be as good as they said. An unusual but welcome touch was your own sun lounger cushion. The pool was nice, albeit quite small and my one criticism was that it was quite difficult to get out of with no handrail - but Ray told me in no uncertain terms that they were never going to put one in! We were not as enamoured with the breakfast as some others on here were - nothing wrong with it, but I felt there could have been more choice bearing in mind the price we had paid. All in all though, the house has been beautifully restored and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Dear Carol & Barry

It was lovely to meet you both and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay here at Casa San Ruffino. As you will be able to see from previous reviews on this site, we offer our guests a high standard of service, suited to those who are looking for a boutique holiday experience in a relatively tourist free area of Italy.

We are sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the breakfast we offer. We aim to provide a healthy varied breakfast with a few extra treats. For people who are considering staying with us please let us tell you what we offer for breakfast; fresh, homemade wholemeal bread, home baked cake, fresh fruit salad and melon (when in season), prosciutto, cheese and a selection of yoghurts. We also offer two types of cereal and fruit juices, local jam and honey and not forgetting as many cups of tea or coffee you would like to start your day. We believe that the price of the room, with breakfast included offers great value for money for the quality and service we provide in our boutique bed & breakfast. Our prices have not increased for 3 years and will not be increasing in 2013.

I was disappointed to hear that you thought the swimming pool was small. The pool here at Casa San Ruffino is 13 metres by 4 metres and has been designed with swimming in mind. When we built the pool we thought it was important that the pool was long enough for guests to swim lengths if they wanted to exercise after eating all the wonderful food that is available in the area. We restrict the number of guests to 8 adults and 2 children making the pool size more than adequate for our guests. You may often find that you have the whole pool to yourself whilst other guests are busy investigating the many wonderful sites and villages Le Marche has to offer.

The pool has internal steps and as you say no hand rail. However, as I suggested at the time you can place your hand on the tiled edge, which would help with your balance, if you have difficulty with steps. When you suggested over breakfast that we should attach a handrail to the pool, I “dismissed this”, as I thought you were joking. We believe a handrail would ruin the overall style of the pool. The steps of the pool run the whole width and the pool was designed so that people can access and exit the pool using the side of the wall if they require extra balance, as I suggested at the time.

We have updated our TripAdvisor page to include a picture of the pool so that any potential guests can see that the pool is large and surrounded by over 80 square metres of decking.

If potential guests with restricted mobility contacted us we would inform them that the pool area is down a set of steps and that the pool may not be suitable for them. Unfortunately, you did not let us know that you had difficulty with steps prior to your arrival, if you had we would have said that Casa San Ruffino might not be suitable for your stay.

We are very passionate about our home and business and we hope that all our guests enjoy their stay with us, which we think is reflected in the previous reviews on this site.

Kind regards
Ray & Claire
