“A great place to unwind with friends”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

2 days and 2 nights to bring in the New year with a large group of friends were quite amazing. While the camp offers great rafting, treks and walks , I was quite happy to laze around and do nothing more strenuous than climbing down a few stairs to get down to the river...the deck chairs can be dragged right to the edge of the water and dipping your toes into the river while reading a book is a great way to spend the afternoon. Winter can be quite cold and the bonfires and angeethis were very welcome..the food was well prepared and hot rotis with the local variety of Saag and dal is highly recommended. The tents were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean with running water.Hot water buckets were provided by very willing staff . The carpets inside the tent, sourced I was told from the local jail added a warm, colourful touch. A great place to unwind
with friends..

Room Tip: Ask for the deluxe tents. They cost more than the regular ones but are well worth it.

This camp is an incredible pit stop between Rishikesh and destinations higher above.
Great place to camp relative to Shivpuri which is now very crowded. But not just as a transit camp, it is a good destination in itself...great view of the river with the site offering well-appointed cottages, really exciting advernture activities and great staff. The evenings are great at the 'riverside cafe'and the food is close to simple homecooked offering - something realy advisable at that altitude.

We planed a rafting trip to Rishikesh and booked the camp at JayalGarh through GIO....
We had a phone chat with their executives and they offered us delux camps. When we chatted them via phone they agreed to provide us all the essential facilities like clean room/ bathrooms/Fan etc etc.
We booked 8 rooms as we were 16 in numbers and they took all the money upfront. The booking was Rs 3300 per person.

But when we reached there the scene was different. There were only 5 rooms available and they said the remaining 3 rooms will be available till evening. The lunch provided to us was pathetic.
The menu of the breakfast was :- Bread slices (prepared only few hours back) with some butter and tea. The river rafting team was good and we enjoyed the river rafting with them
But the food and the stay was pathetic. The bath rooms / toilets were half open from bottom and the portion which was covered was also not 100% covered. The Toilets did have water tap but no water :-). So the solution was very easy . We just need to borrow the water in a bucket from the neighbors toilet. The night was even more entertaining as the rooms did not have the table fans (despite of the hot weather..) and we were fighting with the insects most of the night. Thanks to one guy who gave us 2-3 fans in return of some money one of us pay him :-). . Rest the trip was very entertaining , thrilled and a demonstrated great team work. Thanks to the whole team of light minded people..

The camp is terrible. It was the worst time over there. There was no any kind of facilities were there.
They took all the money in advance and in return nothing was provided.
Hence dont give them advance money.

HI. Again, we are unhappy that you had a bad experience and sincerely regret this. We have given a detailed explanation for the same in the previous review which your friend has posted, who was part of the same group and our response to your feedback would be the same.
Apologies once again for the same irrespective of when and where the miscommunication happened.

I booked jayalgarh camp through Gurgaon office and thought it will be as something similar to what I see in the pics. We were a group of 16 people and booked for 8 deluxe eco camp. We were all happy and waiting for a wonderful stay after spending travelling whole night in the bus. I was at shock after reaching there when they offered us 5 dirty and totally wormed out tents. Though we have booked and paid completely for 8 tents. When we asked manager about rest of the tent they said 3 tents will be available only in the evening as they are still occupied. We had seen many people waiting for the tents. Anyway the tents they offered were open from all side and no fan (it was quite hot outside and inside). We asked about fan and answer was that we don't have fan for these tents. We did not know what to do as there was nothing else around in that area and we were all really tired after a long night journey from Delhi to Jayalgarh. So decided to be there and spend our night.

We all tried to settled down and hoping for some good lunch. We kept waiting till 2 PM for lunch. Finally it arrived and tried to satisfy with the food. Believe me I never had such a tasteless food ever my any of my trips. It was tasteless and cold. But then we did not have any choice.
Finally enjoyed some floating in the river and then went for nature walk in the evening. Did not have any great expectation from the evening dinner. And it was as expected. They served tasteless food quite late. Now the challenge was how to spend night in those open tents when mosquitoes really waiting for their dinner (our blood :). there was not mosquito net, no fan, no mosquito repellent. We tried to be awake as much so as to avoid being mosquito’s dinner and then finally have to sleep as we could not sleep last night as well due to travelling.

Next day started with hopeless breakfast. Some bread toast, omelet and tea and then moved ahead for rafting. Had some fun in the river again and then returned back to the camp. We were all hungry as it was 1 PM already. We soon realized they have not prepared any lunch for us. Though we already communicated them while booking that we will have lunch there. We finally decided to leave as we had lost all hopes from this camp.

They charged Rs. 3300 per person for 8km rafting, nature walk, floating and some tasteless food. You need to arrange for your travel from camp to rafting starting point which is 10 km away from this camp. So I’ll suggest don’t go with the name superior or deluxe. Better find a place something near to rishikesh else you may repent after travelling for more than 300km and spending for something really not worth and painful.

Hi! At the outset, let me apologize for the trip you have had. This kind of feedback is unprecedented for us and therefore forced us to look into all the details of the trip. There has been a lot of miscommunication.
The tents offered to you were the standard tents and not the luxury tents that I think you must have assumed you were getting. All communication w.r.t to your bookings say this. The Luxury tents have fans not the standard tents. We could have offered you an upgrade, had we had the deluxe tents available, which was not the case.
Our standard tents have attached running water washrooms. Though they are basic, they are still much better than the comparable offering in beach camps at shivpuri which have dry pit toilets, common sanitation and no electricity, let alone fans.

Since you have visited in May, in a particularly hot summer, and you had a long journey due to the summer traffic, both of which we do not have control over, it must have been uncomfortable and we tried to increase the activity time to keep you away from the heat.

Coming down to the food, all guests to the camp, irrespective of the section of the camp they are staying in eat in the same buffet and the same food.
Our menu's are standard with periodic changes and have been for a decade now across all our 8 locations, so serving cold and insufficient food is not our philosophy or practice and you are I think misrepresenting facts. Over 1200 children and 2000 adults visit this camp as part of holidays, summer camps, corporate off-sites and have been doing so for over 6 years now.

Infact, we had gone out of our way, in the interest of always keeping our old customers happy, offered your group a repeat trip in our lodges at no cost, which you and your group, have not responded to.

In Summary, we again regret that you went back unhappy. As mentioned above, we have done our best but I think here is was a case of wrong expectation of a deluxe camp experience at the cost of the standard camp section.
