“Horse riding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

We didn't stay at the ranch but we did visit to ride the horses. It was so much fun saddling them and grooming them and the two girls were certainly really professional and knowledgable on horsemanship. The ranch is set in beautiful grounds with stunning views of he area, the sounds of the eagles calling to each other was awe inspiring. Only one thing lacked for me that was a little information about why the ranch was historical, we did try to ask the girls hat took us but after they instructed us on the horses there was very little spoken to us on the actual ride and it seemed that all they wanted to do was ride. We did still enjoy ourselves and our ride and would do it again.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the hotel.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your ride, the landscape and wildlife. It's unfortunate that our Wranglers were not as chatty about the history of the ranch as they could have been. We will definitely make sure they are better prepared and familiar with the ranch history for the 2014 season! We hire local ranch students, so they have been brought up in the Cypress Hills area and we even have bedrooms dedicated to some of their families in the Old Log Barn. If you come back to stay overnight we'll give you the grand tour of the ranchhouse and fill you in on the history! We'd love to have you come back. Thanks again, Theresa and Scott

Found this b&b on recommendation of staff in the Cypress Hills Park info center in Elkwater. Had spent the previous night at Elkwater Lodge ( bad!) so wanted to move. The ranch has a beautiful setting in the hills just on the edge of the park and is a perfect location for exploring the Cypress Hills.
The rooms are all individually decorated and share 2 bathrooms. The upstairs bath is quite spacious and has a tub
( short) . The downstairs bath has a small shower and is very compact. The rooms are all upstairs but the downstairs bath can be accessed by a back staircase. I'd say the bathrooms were simple but the system worked. There were 3 couples at the time we were there and we only had a short wait for a bathroom in the morning.
The guest kitchen had cold drinks, muffins, fruit, snack bars available plus tea/coffee. No sink here though.
There's a nice front porch for sitting out although the hedge does obscure the view...I think it's there as a wind break.
Breakfast was juice, fruit, yogurt, cereal, scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast, coffee ..all served family style at a large table. Wifi was good! and fast! What really makes this a good choice are the owners who are friendly without being overbearing..and the ranch. Did I mention the cattle on the road? This is a working ranch with cattle, horses, riding is offered..and the countryside is wonderful. We'll be back one day I'm sure. If you aren't looking for fancy this is the place to be while visiting Cypress Hills

Room Tip: try rto get one of the larger rooms with a balcony for sitting out with coffee in the morning

My husband and I decided to take a road trip with no reservations and see where we ended up. It was a July long weekend, but after a quick phone call, the staff at the ranch were able to find some room for us.

We had a gorgeous little rustic room, enough room for the 3 of us. We had a huge breakfast. We had only planned on staying 1 night, but ended up staying 2.

The ranch is close to a winery, where we met up with some other guests and had a snack of cheese and crackers and of course some Saskatchewan made wine.

The ranch is situated by the Cypress Hills, with absolutely beautiful views.

We stayed here in July 2010, but it's always fresh in our minds, and we have no doubt that we will head back.
