“Overpriced”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

This was slightly disappointing. The stay here was ok, but not great. The cabin was nice enough, but it is a little older. The bathroom was so-so: no place to put toiletries and the shower stall had some odd spray stains on it. The bed was a bit small and we could feel the springs of the mattress. Parking was very tight. Not all the windows had screens on them despite the large numbers of mosquitos.

All in all it was ok, but we felt that it was overpriced. Prices should be about 50%-60% of what they are.

Thank you for your review, I'm sorry to hear you think we are overpriced. Being the only cabins in the Squamish area, we are extremely popular and in the summer months we often have long wait lists for cancellations. But in an effort to stay affordable, particularly for families, our price of $100 for a cabin that sleeps 4 people has increased by only 10% since 1994.

You are right that our cabins are a little older: Sunwolf was previously a renowned fishing lodge called Fergie's Lodge, and the cabins have been sitting beside the river for at least 50 years. In fact, if we wanted to build them so close to the river today, due to modern building restrictions we wouldn't be allowed. We do make efforts to let people know that they are very cozy but 'quaint' and have plenty of photos of them on our website. Having said that, with brand new roofs last year and new interior paint jobs and all new linens this year, we are in the process of gently modernizing our historic cabins, without them losing the special feel that they have.

We are new owners at Sunwolf - we took over 2 years ago - and have an enormous list of work we plan to do to the whole 5 acre property. Right now, as you saw, we are renovating a very old cabin and we should have it completed by the end of August. We have put in a full bathroom, full kitchen, a sleeping loft and a cast iron wood stove, but have kept all the old character features that make our cabins unique. We would love for you to come back and stay in this updated cabin, as it will really show you where we plan to take Sunwolf - and we think it's pretty exciting!

Thanks again for your feedback, we hope to persuade you back here one of these days!

We had a wonderful lunch at Fergie's at Sunwolf. The location is so beautiful; it was a warm summer day and we sat under the big black walnut tree and just enjoyed the great location. The food is delicious, and the ingredients they use are so fresh and delicious.
The resort is rustic, peaceful and perfect for a quiet get away.

Room Tip: The cabins are all so quiet and the river runs right behind them so you will be lulled to sleep.

The trip was fantastic! The rafting had a good mix of calm waters and fast flowing, up and down grade 4 rapids. It was a good work out for sure too!
Our guide Bob was great, gave clear instruction and encouraged us to push our limits.
The BBQ was superb, the salmon on this trip to BC has been outstanding and the BBQ salmon did not disappoint.
We arrived a bit early and had our breakfast in Fergie's, this was our BEST breakfast of our whole trip, homemade sausages which were delicious, great coffee. Well worth getting there early for this treat!
and then there was Sunny the dog....he is lovely and my buddy fell in love with him.
In the winter months the guys run trips down the river to see the hundreds of bald-headed eagles that reside in the Squamish area, supposed to be amazing!

Normally I book all of our travel arrangements since traveling is my passion, but my husband decided to lend a hand for this trip after watching me plan 3 trips in the last year. He was super nervous that I would hate his decisions, but there was no need! Sunwolf was fantastic! Our cabin was nice and peaceful which is what we wanted from this trip. The food at Fergie's was SO good that I was trying to convince Brad to open a franchise in Chicago so I could eat there every day. We also used one of the grills to make our own dinner one night. It was great sitting on the deck and watch Sonny gnaw on a bone in the yard! We stayed for 3 nights, but I wish we had been able to stay longer. Jake, Jess, Tanya and Slater were all so nice and friendly.

We went on their whitewater rafting tour with Tanya, Slater, Bob and Eric the photographer and could not have had a better time. They take the time to have little extras like table cloths and tents at the picnic site. We were certainly not expecting anything beyond paper plates and a picnic bench! The food for lunch was fantastic. Everyone was funny and nice and knowledgeable. I had never been rafting before, but I wish I could go every day now! Bob was such a fun guide! He told us about another river in West Virginia and we're thinking about trying to go this summer. Our boat even made the photo-of-the-day on their facebook page. Eric took some amazing pictures which was just the perfect finish for the day of rafting.

This place is great! You NEED to stay here! It's close to Squamish where there is a ton of stuff to do and great places to eat and it's not too far from Whistler. You won't be sorry! Especially if you eat at Fergie's every day!

Hey! Great to hear you enjoyed your stay! Franchise in Chicago, sounds like a good idea!

We're constantly trying to improve our products and it's nice to know that the little thing(tablecloths/food/photographers/etc) are getting noticed. Hopefully we'll get to see you guys again in the future! Sonny says hi!

Take care and thanks again!

The place is great for a getaway with your kids. We decided to have the weekend without eletronics and our kids did not miss it as we they enjoyed so much the place, playing around with Sunny, the dog. We had a picnic, s'mores in a awesome fire pit, hiking, fishing and the highlights for sure is the breakfast at Fergies. Kids also enjoyed the tire swings. We will be back...

Room Tip: If you go with kids try to get the cabin with kitchen.

Weekend getaway with friends and it was fantastic! Jess and Jake were so friendly and hospitable! Sonny the dog was so much fun!

Fergie's had some amazing home-made sausages...I'm so sad I forgot to buy some on my way out! Accommodations and facilities were very well equipped....rustic cabins with hot showers and super comfy beds. It was great to be able to use the communal bbq for dinner... love the hot tub too!

Both Garibaldi and the Chief are just a short drive away for a nice day hike.

Highly recommend! Would love to come back later to do some eagle watching, white water rafting... etc..

Thanks you!
