“Fabulous country inn”
Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

Just spent the night at the Angel Inn as visiting our daughter who is a student at the University of Essex. Having travelled 6 hours from Anglesey my husband and I were ready for a relaxing evening, that's exactly what we had. First impression, beautiful, quaint, warm and inviting. We were greeted by James, the manager who clearly knows his job and was professional but friendly. Shown to our room, room 3, lovely big bathroom and beautifully decorated. Enjoyed a long relaxing bath before going down to dinner. Log burning fire, relaxing background music and empty wine bottles housing flickering dinner candles, what an ambience. Bread board, delicious, warm rustic bread and the classic balsamic & oil combo, yum. Salt & chilli squid to die for, chef please share your recipe for that dipping sauce :) The highlight of the dinner was a sirloin steak on the bone, cooked to perfection and delicious accompanied by a lovely bottle of red served at the perfect temperature. The chef here is superb, very skilled and talented, thank you. The waiter ( sports science student, sorry forgot your name) what a lovely young man, very sociable and attentive. Slept like a log all night and enjoyed a full English before leaving for home feeling relaxed and very satisfied. Already booked to return in December, can't wait. Thanks Angel Inn, looking forward to becoming regulars as our daughter is inEssex for 4 years, well done, great job xxx

My wife and I went to the Angel with two other couples for lunch. It was very quite on a monday, but the food was delicious and well presented. There is a fixed price 2 or 3 course special and the usual, larger, a la carte menu. Our bill (without wine, but with tip) came to £30.00 per head. The pub has 6 rooms, we did not view any, but if the same care is taken over the rooms as in the bar and dining room, they should be pretty good. The pub is paired with the Anchor at nearby Nayland, about 2 miles away on a river bank. We were offered 10% off the food bill on our next visit to either pub. We would certainly look to stop over next time.

The food was very good, the staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable. Only complaint was that the lighting in the bedroom was far too dim. It was very hard to read and impossible to put makeup on.

Room Tip: Ask for one not overlooking the road.

My husband and I visited The Angel for a midweek lunch and all I can say is, it was fantastic! On arriving, we received a warm welcome and throughout our lunch the staff we very friendly and attentive.
On to the food. In one word - fantastic! Our starters were delicious, and our main courses (Venison & Mushroom Pie and Hereford Beef Burger with Triple Cooked chips) were amazing. The best food we have ever had in a pub.
If you want delicious food at a good price, then head to The Angel.

We stayed in Polstead at a B&B for four nights and were highly recommended to visit this pub for lunches and evening meals. The welcome was excellent and so was the food . We could not fault anything and made our holiday a more enjoyable experience. Thank you

After a bad experience starting the evening at another place we booked a table last minute at The Angel and they made us feel so welcome turning a disastrous start elsewhere into a delightful evening from the moment we walked in the door to saying Goodnight! We were made to feel comfortable with an aperitif and some appetisers. The meal was lovely and presented very well and the service was impeccable. I was made to feel really special on my birthday and the staff and whole experience there made my day. I would recommend The Angel Inn to anyone.

We visited the pub for Sunday lunch and we were very dissapointed with the meal. Very small portions (2 small roast potatoes!!!!) and the food was luke warm. Will not be returning and I feel there are better pubs in the local area.
