“Three (elderly) Couples”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

We wanted to recall some of the fun that we have had together over many years, and if possible add to it. The Crown proved to be the ideal place for this. The rooms were very comfortable and well equipped, the staff friendly, professional and charming, and the food quite outstanding. It was not the cheapest two-nighter that we have ever had, but it was excellent value for money and ticked all the right boxes for us.

Room Tip: All are equally pleasant in an accommodation block erected in traditional style only four years ago...

Really well presented, well thought out dishes and great vegetarian options. You can tell the vegies are local. My meat loving boyfriend could not have possibly drooled any more over his steak. Desserts are pieces of art but must be eaten!!

We spent three nights at the Crown this week, as a convenient point to meet up with four members of our family for a short break. We all agreed that the whole experience was absolutely perfect, and certainly exceeded our expectations. The rooms are as tastefully furnished and as well equipped as you would expect from a 5 star hotel, and apparently the hotel is classified as 3 star because of the lack of certain amenities, such a lift. All of the staff are professional and friendly and have obviously been well trained, as well as being naturally customer focussed, nice people. The menus for breakfast and evening meals are extensive and highly tempting. All of the food was cooked to perfection and much appreciated by all. The fact that the restaurant was buzzing and quite full mid-week speaks volumes. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Crown to anyone, and hope to stay again. We ate at the Angel Inn across the road on the final night, just for a change, and that was top notch too.

It's true that the star rating for hotels is sometimes hard to rationalise and this is something that our guests often comment on. We believe that The Crown delivers the very best that a boutique country hotel can offer and the universally positive reviews that we receive bear this out. Fortunately, it is our customers' opinions that are most important to us! Thank you for raising this point - as I think you mentioned in your in-room feedback, it's time hotels were graded on what they DO offer rather than what they don't!

It was a treat for me to stay away from my own hotel and The Crown was an inspiration from the first welcome to leaving after breakfast. The attention to detail in my beautiful room and the modern high tec. bathroom was comparable to The Ritz but with views looking out over miles of unspoilt countryside. I shall certainly return and have dinner in the dining room which looked very welcoming with exceptionally pleasant waiting staff at breakfast.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Crown. My staff work very hard to maintain our high standards both in the Hotel and the Restaurant and it's particularly gratifying to receive such a positive review from a fellow hotelier.

As a TV cameraman I spend about a quarter of the year on the road and have become a real nit picking grump about hotels. But I can safely say my stay here was wonderful and flawless. Everything was perfect; the tasteful decor (increasingly hard to find as every hotel chases a boutique monika blissfully ignorant of any aesthetic), charming and helpful staff, fabulous food and a wonderful setting. Quite simply my most relaxing business stay for years.

At The Crown, we hope to give all our guests a relaxing and comfortable stay and, for those business travellers who spend a lot of time away from home, we understand how particularly important this is. We stayed the night last Sunday and celebrated our birthdays. Saved having to drive particularly as there is a superb range of beers.

Our hotel room was excellent, very comfortable and a superb high tech bathroom. The retaurant food was extremely good, the atmosphere was lively but there were enough staff to ensure very good service and with a smile.

Breakfast the following morning was as good as any we have had in a hotel for a long time.

All in all we just couldn't find fault and will definitiely return.

Spacious and airy dining room in very nice small hotel in a lovely village in an unspoilt area of
England. The food was first class and innovative and although slightly dearer than the average
pub restaurant was I thought reasonably priced and good value for the quality.
Certainly somebody there knows how to cook. I had a starter of duck confit scotch egg and it was perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth type of food. Service was good and friendly and everywhere including the toilets was spotless. I ate there on a Wednesday lunch time and there were very
few empty tables and the large car park was full. Always a good sign.
