“A rural delight and a charming small town !”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

My wife and I stayed at La Fermette du Lac almost one year ago, on 26th March 2012. It was a great choice in every respect : very comfortable, quiet and characterful room; lovely views across the countryside; excellent breakfast; and a welcoming host.

We also liked the small market town of Ardres very close by and with a good choice of restaurants - the one we chose (opposite the north side of the green as you come in on the road from Calais) was very good value and not at all touristy.

We shall certainly return to La Fermette du Lac for a respite from the hassle of a busy everyday lifestyle.

My partner and I found this place by luck last year as we set off on our big 3 week trip around France visiting all the wine region. Having set off from London, we were glad to have opted for an overnight stay in La Fermette as the traffic was heavy and we were quite tired.

We drove by the accommodation a few times not being able to find it on our satnav and the lack of sign posts perhaps was the only issue we had. However as soon as we arrived, Nicolas' wife welcome us and installed us in our Campagne room which was a good size, comfortable and very clean. They have a surprisingly large back garden or perhap call it a paddock which goes down to the lake and it's very quiet.

Although we were recommended a pizza place, we opted for some bread, cheese, charcuterie and beer from a nearby supermarket (3 mins drive) and sat out on their outdoor wooden table. Nicolas arrived a bit later from work to welcome us and have a small chat.

Breakfast next morning was fantastic and Nicolas was in fine form churning out one dish after another including cheese, marmalade, heaps of pain perdu, coffee and juice and more - sufficient enough to have kept us going until we reached Champagne.

I have subsequently recommended this place to my father who enjoyed it as well and no doubt will be staying here in the future.

If I could however suggest - the lack of good restaurants in the local vicinity makes it a bit cumbersome for guests to drive far out for something other than pizzas. If they could also provide the option of a light dinner - just some charcuterie with bread etc, that would be a very welcomed addition!

My wife and I were referred to this B&B from a nearby owner who was full on the night we wanted to stay (31st August). Nicolas Lutun (your host at La Fermette du Lac) is one of the most charming frenchmen you will meet. He has a very dry sense of humour and is a wonderful host - if a little irreverant!
We stayed in the 'Nature' room and the arrangement of the private suite with groundfloor bathroom and first floor bedroom added another dimension to the beautifully presented accommodation.
Only a 15 minute drive from Calais port.
Due to ferry delays, we arrived later than we had said but a quick call to Nicolas ensured he was aware. He was grateful for the call and was awaiting our arrival at 23:00 (!) with a warm smile and kind word.
We enjoyed a wonderful night sleep in the peaceful surrounds and a fantastic breakfast with homemade jams, preserves and some very unusal spreads all made by Nicolas for his guests. The view from the breakfast room is unrivalled. We will undoubtedly stay again when the opportunity or neccessity arises. (assuming Nicolas will allow us!).

Room Tip: We cannot comment on the other rooms, but the 'Nature' room was beautifully presented and ve...

My wife and i usually do the booze cruise day trip once a year, but decided to turn this trip into an overnight stay thru an offer in the Daily Mail newspaper.(£17 o'night return!!) Researching the web we decided to book this B+B and everything from booking online to our actual stay was fantastic, the owner Nicolas made us very welcome and was very helpful at all times. Our room was La Chambre Campagne(there are three themed bedrooms)and was lovely, simple, but charming with a lovely toilet/shower room, comfortable double bed, small tv (french chanels only) and a large wardrobe. Our breakfast in the morning was delightful, breads, jams, cheese, applejuice, tea and a freshly made eggybread topped with sugar! wonderful!!! All in all i would highly recomend staying here, lovely b+b,lovely owner, lovely setting,5 mins to Ardres with an array of restaurants.

Room Tip: all three rooms are good.

We stayed following a recommendation from in-laws. The room was beautiful with super crisp bedding and a great bathroom. The B&B has lovely views over the lake and we found it well placed for a walk down there for dinner at a lakeside restaurant. Nicolas the host was very helpful with local info.
Breakfast was excellent with an array of fresh juices, breads and cheeses... and a freshly made bread dish that I can't remember the name of but was exquisite!
Highly recommended!
