A different type of Chateau that is for sure, definitely not a 'Royal' Chateau like Amboise, Blois and Chenonceau despite it having a Kings Chamber bedroom. There are traces of animal parts everywhere, mounted heads and antlers on most walls including the Chapel! There is even a couple of Museums on the property devoted to hunting including the Huntsman Lodge and the Hunt museum. If you love animals you might want to give this Chateau a miss.
The entry is 8.5 euro and for that price you do not even get a basic guide book, just a rough map on the back of the ticket. We bought a small guide book for 2 Euro but it was very old stock.
Personally its not my cup of tea, but I'm glad I had a look!

Nicely presented chateau with some very interesting exhibits. To be honest, we could have done without the audio dramas that played (very loudly) every time you entered a room.
There is a strong hunting theme here, and the local hunt was meeting at the castle on the day we visited.

this chateau is still occupied by the family that have owned it for the last 2 centuries & the love they have for their home is obvious. The attention to detail was amazing & we really got a sense of what it must have been like to live in this beautiful chateau. It is fully furnished with everything being really well maintained & in seemingly perfect condition. Chateau de Montpoupon was one of our favourite chateaus on our visit to the Loire.

This chateau is clean and neatly done; even the entry-area has those wonderful rake-lines in the gravel that show that everything is laid out so perfectly. Each room has an automatic motion sensor that begins the (in French) male-female actor dialogs that seek to explain some of the items in the room. We were struck by how well-laid out and well-stocked each room is. This was unexpectedly well-done, compared with even some of the larger regional chateaux (like the upper floors of Chaumont - but they're working on it). For its small size, this is a great visit and beautiful and well worth the money.

We visited here and also in the "Auberge de Montpoupon" next door which is a most agreeable combo.
This family owned castle looks as if the owners had just stepped outside to give you a glimpse of their lifestyle. Personally, the study room in the turret was my favorite!
In addition to the castle there is a quite extensive collection of hunting related exhibits which even my family of decidedly non-hunting city dwellers found pretty interesting!
