We spent ten days touring around Switzerland and this was the place I was most looking forward to being. Gimmerwald was amazing! We arrived early at the Guesthouse and they had a note board allowing us to put our luggage in the rooms before check –in. Our room was on the third floor which was an attic at one point, the room was not much bigger then my cubical at work with a slanted roof that made it possible to only stand up in the area by the doorway.
There was NO WINDOW, just a tiny skylight which had left the room stifling hot. We basically spent our first day in Gimmerwald looking for another place to stay which we thankfully found. I cannot believe that she would book this room as a double and charge full price for it. It was worth it to us to just loose the money on a two nights stay there rather than stay in that room. Such a disappointment after the great reviews we had read.
Oh, and don’t be fooled by the fact that it is called a bed and breakfast, breakfast is not included.

Room Tip: If you stay here make sure you are not on the Third floor!

Our favorite stay during a recent 2 week trip to Europe. Our top floor room was spotless, well laid out and had a magnificent view of the spectacular Swiss Alps.
The well furnished kitchen on the main floor was always a gathering spot for interesting fellow travelers. Wi-fi could be a bit temperamental but who's here to spend much time in the digital world?
Esther helped us to choose hikes and restaurants. In the evenings we would sit out on the large porch enjoying a nice glass of Swiss wine while marveling at the spectacular alpine sights in front of us.

Spotless, well appointed and quiet. We hope to return.

My daughter, on a short break from her study abroad in Dijon, and I spent three nights here, and could not have been more pleased. Our room was clean, very comfortable and well-furnished. Breakfast was excellent, and the kitchen is top-notch. WiFi is available. Great base from which to explore this magnificently beautiful region of Switzerland. Friendly, courteous and professional service. Overall, an outstanding value. Looking forward to returning...

We enjoyed our stay at Esther's. Views are "wow"! Our room and the common areas were clean & comfortable. Sounds of cowbells and waterfalls was lovely. It was nice to have kitchen access for cooking meals since restaurants are expensive in Switzerland. Great location!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the rooms up highest in building. Having a room lower,by the kitchen, would be convenient...

Wow. This was our first stay in idyllic Gimmelwald, and we spent 3 nights here. Apartment B was spotless and comfortable, complete with a beautiful balcony in the shadow of the Jungfrau (ceilings are low, though). It was quiet despite being above the street. Esther was wonderfully friendly and supplied us with an amazing, albeit expensive breakfast the first morning, we shopped locally and cooked breakfast ourselves after that. This b&b really gives you all you need and more. The location was great; we did several hikes from Mürren under the Schilthorn, it was a joy to end up right back at Esther's. Mürren, a larger village with more restaurants, a bank, and a supermarket, is just one 5 minute cable car ride away. The value was good for Switzerland. This was one of the best lodgings on our two-week trip to Europe. You will not be disappointed!

First off, Gimmelwald really IS one of the most places on Earth. I've been there several times, and Esther's is THE place to stay. Yes, it's pricey for American standards, but so is the rest of Switzerland! You will get an immaculately clean and comfortable room, friendly service, peace and quiet, and beautiful views.

How anyone could give this place a "terrible" rating is beyond me, and as you see, there is only one confused soul out there who did that. Shame on you, sir! Esther's "rules" are simply meant to clarify various things and keep the place as clean as possible, not to make you feel unwelcome. And she is more than willing to accommodate you if she can. She will gladly answer any questions you have or address any concerns.

Esther has been running her guesthouse for a number of years, and the quality hasn't suffered at all, as her standards are very high. You will truly enjoy your stay in Gimmelwald with Esther, so don't book anywhere else!

We spent 3 nights at Esther's and echo recent reviews. We stayed in the 5xx room - one where the private shower and bath were across the hall, but only ours nonetheless. If you were wary that a guesthouse is like a hostel, think again. No collective dorm rooms. Our area, which had 3 separate rooms, was extremely quiet and private, and judging from the rest of the guesthouse layout, this would be true throughout. In our room, you determine the weather by looking up - through the openable / shadeable double-pane window - if it was clear, you just saw blue sky and mountains, so your room kept you in the spirit of being in the Swiss mountains. Regarding surrounding views from Gimmelwald, just amazing - we ate at the Mountain Hostel close at hand and listened / watched the waterfalls down the mountains. Would go back in an instant - also the town is steeped in its farm life - goats, cows, chickens and fat cats (must get extra milk helpings - they are all, uh, well-fed). Commuting by cable car. Need a break from your normal life? Yo - here it is.

Room Tip: Have no reason to believe that they are not all good - balconies exist for the apartment rooms facin...
