We had read about Esthers in a couple of the travel books and wondered if it could live up to the excellent reputation--it did. Gimmelwald is quiet and charming, yet easy access to the entire Murren/Lauterbrunnen/Jungfrau area. Some of our group hiked or road up the Schilthorn and others went up to Jungfraujoch--Gimmelwald is easy access to all of it being steps away from the cable car. Esther is very helpful and willing to share tips about restaurants, things to do. We enjoyed sharing a typical Swiss breakfast with other guests. Our 2nd floor, 5 person apartment was immaculate and it was nice to have cooking facilities on the day it rained. Very reasonably priced for what you get. We only had 3 days but could easily spend a couple weeks exploring the area.

Esther's is located right off the cable car station and least effort was needed to drag our bags. We stayed for 3 nights and took the room on the second level. Its a beautiful house with everything kept for luxury of guests in mind. Has board games, beautiful view of mountains and a dinner spot right across the street. Its just like a place you can dream of on your vacation, cowbells from nearby farm , some local festival happens every now and then selling local cheese and drinks. Few cool tips: Walk across the street to hostel for dinner in 10 bucks which is extremely rare in swiss and super fresh. Do not even think of missing to go up to Murren and doing the paragliding, it is the best place to try it with snowcapped mountains above you, green valley below and countless waterfalls in front of you. Lastly, DO NOT miss the trails starting from Murren ( 5 min ride from gimmelwald)

My extended family, six adults between the ages of 30 and 70, stayed at Esther's this summer while exploring Gimmelwald and Murren. We found Esther's a great jumping off point for hiking, paragliding, Schilthorn, and even the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It is the first stop on the cable car, but much smaller than Murren, so it has the perfect mix of convenience and authentic Swiss mountain chalet experience.

Esther provided great customer service, even when we had to change our dates at the last minute.

Pros:
- Modern and clean
- A variety of room sizes and apartments available for families or groups
- Breakfast was convenient
- Kitchen available for cooking to help alleviate the high cost of Swiss food (buy food in Interlaken, if you can)
- The Mountain Hostel, just a few steps away, serves reasonably priced food with great service
- Gimmelwald is still pretty idyllic despite being touted by Rick Steve

Cons:
- My parent's room upstairs had a private bathroom, but it was not attached to the room. Not much of an issue since they were the only guests on the 2nd floor, but could be inconvenient if not what you were expecting.

Room Tip: Downstairs apartment is very spacious and a good value.

small pension, well priced compared to other similar. Small but clean and cosy room. Bathrooms shared between 2-3 rooms and are nice and clean.
extra services include free internet, coffee machine self service, and a great breakfast. The guest house is mostly without service but I believe Esther is always reachable.

A friend recommended Esther's Guesthouse and we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are very clean and the amenities are just great. We enjoyed having breakfast on our first morning and then doing some shopping to make our own meals for most of the days we stayed. Ther are great places to eat out nearby -- I recommend the Hostel that is next door. Franzi was very helpful. The views are wonderful as are all the hikes you can do right from Gimmelwald.

My fiancé and I took a much needed "outdoor timeout" to Gimmelwald and stayed at Esther's. By the time we left, we felt rejuvenated and well rested. I can't say enough good things about Esther's guesthouse. It was a perfect haven away from everything with lovely amenities and equally lovely people. It's a beautiful little world in which I would go back to and recommend to all my family and friends.

I will forewarn people that the house is quiet and relaxing...so you won't find wild parties or a lot of night life here. If you want a cozy place to head to after a long day of hiking and enjoying the Swiss Alps, this is the place. You can make your own dinner in the well-equipped and very clean common kitchen, or head over to the restaurant across the street for a delicious meal. I found myself a few times curled up on a wicker bench outside on Esther's farmer's porch, wrapped in a blanket (supplied by the guesthouse), reading a good book and drinking a glass of wine. It was pure relaxation.

While it didn't bother us, people should know that some of the rooms that come with private bathrooms are located outside of the room. It's just a few steps outside of the bedroom, but that may make a difference to some.

Overall, amazing place. One of those places you wish only you knew about!

Gimmelwald is a stunning village perched above the cliffs in the Swiss alps. Getting to the village was an amazing experience itself. You have to take the train to Lauterbrunnen from Interlaken and take a bus to Stechelberg. From there take a cable car ride to the beautiful car free village of Gimmelwald. Esther's guest house is located a few yards from the cable car station. The village and the views from the guest house are breathtaking. Esther's guest house is very well maintained and absolutely clean. Esther is very friendly and hospitable and was willing to help us with any questions we had. They also have free Wifi. We would definitely love to come back to Gimmelwald for another time and stay in Esther's guest house. Thanks to Rick Steves for recommending this!
