i stayed here with my boyfriend for one night in august 2008. i wish we had stayed longer! a friend of ours had been to gimmewald a couple years ago on a trip and she said we should go for the view alone, so we left interlaken in the morning and ended up in gimmewald by noon, in time to enjoy a picnic on the mountainside and spectacular views, and we left the next morning to catch our train to italy. we'd like to go back and stay for a few days to take advantage of the amazing hiking trails in the area. hotel mittaghorn itself was lovely and rustic, with wooden walls, floors, and furniture. everyone staying at the hotel was warm and friendly and we had a delightfully interesting conversation with everyone well into the night. walter was a dear man. we had a dinner of veggie soup, spaghetti, wine, and dessert which was a fantastic homecooked meal that hit the spot! breakfast the next morning included fresh baked bread that was out of this world! our room was cozy but not cramped and overlooked jungfrau which was breathtaking! we shared toilet facilities down the hall, and although most rooms have a shared shower down the hall we lucked out and had a room with a shower in it! we also had the best sleep of our trip at the hotel, it must have been the mountain hair and super cushy beds!
a word to the wise - there isn't much in the way of convenience stores or cafes in gimmewald, and what is there seems to be rather expensive even by swiss standards. i'd recommend bringing some snacks, etc. with you and ordering dinner with walter each night.
