i stayed here with my boyfriend for one night in august 2008. i wish we had stayed longer! a friend of ours had been to gimmewald a couple years ago on a trip and she said we should go for the view alone, so we left interlaken in the morning and ended up in gimmewald by noon, in time to enjoy a picnic on the mountainside and spectacular views, and we left the next morning to catch our train to italy. we'd like to go back and stay for a few days to take advantage of the amazing hiking trails in the area. hotel mittaghorn itself was lovely and rustic, with wooden walls, floors, and furniture. everyone staying at the hotel was warm and friendly and we had a delightfully interesting conversation with everyone well into the night. walter was a dear man. we had a dinner of veggie soup, spaghetti, wine, and dessert which was a fantastic homecooked meal that hit the spot! breakfast the next morning included fresh baked bread that was out of this world! our room was cozy but not cramped and overlooked jungfrau which was breathtaking! we shared toilet facilities down the hall, and although most rooms have a shared shower down the hall we lucked out and had a room with a shower in it! we also had the best sleep of our trip at the hotel, it must have been the mountain hair and super cushy beds!

a word to the wise - there isn't much in the way of convenience stores or cafes in gimmewald, and what is there seems to be rather expensive even by swiss standards. i'd recommend bringing some snacks, etc. with you and ordering dinner with walter each night.

We loved our stay at Walter's place. Our room had a shower (bonus!) and the balcony had a lovely view. Breakfast was tasy and dinner was delicious. Tim is an excellent guide who can offer great hiking suggestions and weather tips. The views are unreal throughout Gimmelwald and the surround areas. This hotel exceeded our needs and was very affordable. Dog friendly too! Don't go expecting plush, luxury accomodations; they are more spartan here but it suited the area and overall experience quite well.

We stayed with Walter in Hotel Mittaghorn in September 2007. This hotel was simply stunning and was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe!

The hotel is situated in beautiful Gimmelwald with an amazing view of the Swiss Alps. It is nothing flash but you will be warmly welcomed, it is full of character, very well priced and the food is excellent. Ask for room number 1. as it has a direct view of the alps.

Gimmelwald is a perfect village that is a must for anyone interested in scenery, tramping and wanting to get a real taste for the Alps. Gimmelwald and Hotel Mittaghorn are not to be missed!

Walter and his hotel are absolute wonders in the little old town of Gimmelwald. Included in our 58 Euro/night stay was a delicious breakfast, and we opted to buy the homemade dinner for an additional 20 Euro. Everything was wonderful, and being the only guests, we got lots of attention. Switzerland can be extremely expensive, but not here. The views of the Alps from our room were absolutely stunning. The entire Gimmelwald experience was so relaxing and charming... a real hidden treasure, you may be the only ones walking the streets. I recommend all visitors to make a stop here. The experience is priceless.
