“One of life's greatest finds”

I travel for business and stay at 5 star hotels but we were looking for some place off the beaten path and boy did we find it. We had never stayed at a hostel. The accommodations were rustic and bare. The experience we had here was incredible. The place was charming, clean and picture perfect in its setting. I dream of returning. This was my all time favorite place in the world. Staff were great.

For tall guests be aware that the rooms are really short! Not the cheapest place to stay but central, great restaurant onsite, great people who run it, AMAZING views, from restaurant's patio. If we were to visit this area again, we would stay in Murren up the hill or Lauterbrunnen down in the valley...more choices for food/groceries and places to stay than Gimmelwald.

We stayed there only for a day and it was decent enough. I think the rooms ( if you don't select dormitory) is a basic comfortable room. It is definitely not anywhere close to nearby Esther's but then its a decent room at half the price and when you are out there 16 hours a day enjyoing the trails and swiss beauty you cant ask for more.

Great dinner served at Pension, the owner does a great job at keeping the fresh and versatile menu each day. I ate here for 3 out of the 6 days of my stay and it was great food each time i tried here.

This was my second trip to Gimmelwald, and for this excursion I chose to stay at the Pension Gimmelwald, a property only a short walk away from the Stechelberg cablecar. Even though the weather was a bit rainy, the stay at the Pension was excellent. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and we had a very nice upper room. Bathrooms and showers were very clean, and access was very easy. Wireless internet was a bit spotty from our location, and I'm guessing a lower room would fix that problem.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again. Can't wait for my next trip!

wow, what a location. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away from the usual tourist spots. The Pension is more of a b+b than backpackers, which suited us fine. The view from the deck is fantastic. The place is warm and cozy, the food is all home made and very well prices compared to the rest of Switzerland! We stayed the night before we took the cable car the rest of the way up to the Sclithorn and loved it.

Only one negative was how squeaky the beds were! Nothing naughty going on, but I move around a lot in bed, and every turn gave a very loud squeak, I was very conscious of disturbing the other guests. We were above the bar, but the music stopped fairly early.

Stayed here 3 nights and had a fantastic time. The place is rustic and charming, and despite the thin walls it's essentially silent at night -- impressive! The staff is really helpful and fun, and the outdoor garden has a view that can't be beaten. The wifi is fairly unreliable, but man alive, you're in the mountains!

We stayed two nights at Pension Gimmelwald in late August. We had dinner there one of our two nights and breakfast on two days. This is a rustic inn with character -- creaky floor boards, rooms evoking a summer camp cabin, and floppy, comfortable old lounge furniture in the common area. It is a great base for hiking in the area and the staff can help you figure out where to hike -- the area is stunningly beautiful and we encountered very few other hikers. If you need provisions the nearest grocery is up the hill in Murren, so shop before you go or select from a very modest selection of provisions at the adjacent shop. The Pension serves tasty and reasonably priced meals. If you need a place that feels modern and has chain-hotel conveniences, the Pension Gimmelwald is not for you. If you want a simple, friendly, rustic lodging you will be happy here.
