Took a very relaxing boat ride to Brienz from Interlaken OST and then caught the train back. The colour of the water, surrounding scenery and sheer tranquillity is just breathtaking.

I took a couple of boat tours when I was in Switzerland. With a half-fare card there wasn't too much difference in price to go first class so it's definitely worth it. The choice of seating is better and you have access to the sundeck.

Went on a sunny albeit a bit cloudy day. The cruise was an hour from interlaken ost. Has a bar if you needed cold / warm food or drinks. Has WC too. The reason I say this is because you hv to pay .50 franc for toilet at some places such as the train station at brienz & Thun(the town at the opposite lake). Personally, I think the cruise is only worth doing on sunny days with good visibility because we did Thun lake cruise yesterday (poor visibility) & it wasn't as 'wow' as this trip.

Lake Brienz was absolutely beautiful, its turquoise colour an unrivalled shade of purity and many visitors, like us, sat along the park benches just staring into the waters for a long time, finding our own peace and calm. There were designated cycling and pedestrian paths along the parameters of the lake and signages were clear in directing you to your next stop. We didn't go very far as we did not have much time to explore the area but whatever we explored within the 2 hours we had was sufficient to rejuvenate our mind and souls.

We were told that the boat trip down Lake Brienz was free with Eurail Pass users, but we didn't get to utilise that as it only operated during the weekends (we were there during the weekdays).

Lake Brienz is really beautiful - we thought it was the best Swiss lake that we visited. The views were stunning all along the north side of the lake. Every way we looked there was a superb view of snow capped mountains and the glistening lake itself. Perfect when the sun is shining, as it was for most of the time we were there. And we thought the colour of the water is fantastic!

This is a wonderful lake; especially the green-blue colour is unique. If possible take a tour with a steam boat. Doubtlessly one of the highlights at Bernese Oberland.
