We stayed for two nights in room 12, it has a balcony overlooking the mountains. It's a good location, about five minutes walk to the train station. Plenty of choice at breakfast and they also offer half board for an extra 38 CHF per night which is reasonable for Switzerland. We never tried the food.

Parts of the hotel are a bit dated, but everything is adequate.

You pay 5CHF per room for the stay for wireless connection. We could only connect if we sat next to the router in a communal area.

City tax was an extra CHF3.50 per person per night so factor that into your stay.

My wife, 12-yr old son, and I stayed at the Hotel Bearen-The Bear Inn in mid-May 2013 for 3 nights. This place has an old-world charm to it. Our room was located on the second floor of the hotel just off the main staircase. However, this did not pose a problem. We did not hear much of the people coming or going.
The room was large, very comfortable for the three of us. The furniture was country-style, with cute stencils on them. Comfortable bedding for all of us.
The floors were squeaky, but that what's to expect from a place this old.
The breakfast buffet was good with a plenty of variety to choose from.
The place is very convenient to explore the region. It was actually nicer to stay in this quiet village than in the tourist center in Interlaken.
Definitely would recommend staying at this hotel.

A very good hotel.. Very Swiss. Absolutely friendly staff...

The rooms are wooden cottage styled.. Overlooking the breathtaking Alps. Very nicely located if you want to roam around in the Junfrau Region.

Restaurant is absolutely fantastic. Very warm n cozy ambiance.. Food is good. Do not miss the House Wine.

Negative Points: Tea/Coffee making facility not available in the room. So even though there is an amazing Alps facing balcony, you can't enjoy a morning tea/coffee unless you order a room service.

WiFi is 5 Francs but the network is very poor in the room. Only available in the 1st floor lobby.

All n all, It was a fantastic stay. Thank you Hotel Baeren.

Spent a week in a superior room with views to the Jungfrau. Hotel very clean, our room was a good size, well equipped and with comfortable beds. The breakfast was excellent however service was very slow during the evening meal though the staff were generally helpful.
The hotel is situated in an excellent location with only a 10min walk to the trains or <1 min to the bus stop.

Room Tip: book a superior room for mountain view and for better room size.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Baeren in December before christmas. We found both the town and hotel to be very charming and had a great stay. We were planning on skiing in Grindelwald, but didn't know how to go about renting skis or which areas were the best to ski. The receptionist at the front desk, Anita, was very helpful and made sure we were all set to ski the Alps! Anita was super nice and accommodating throughout our stay at the hotel. Grindelwald was the best skiing EVER! I guess we were there before the holiday high season so the hotel was relatively empty, which was nice. Our room had a small balcony with a table and chairs. We ate at the hotel restaurant on our first night and had a very delicious meal with great service. The breakfast each morning was a huge spread with everything from meats, cheeses, and breads to cereals and oatmeal. In my opinion this hotel is a great value - average price but great service and food so what more can you ask for!

I would probably stay here again just for the amazing free breakfast that you get every morning. It was a perfect way to start the day, especially before getting out on the slopes. The staff here was extremely nice and very helpful with any questions we had. Very easy (and scenic) walk to and from the train station in Wilderswil so transport was very easy to work with. The bus stop right next to the hotel is very nice as well whenever we went into Interlaken at night. The building is very old and had a nice cozy feeling to it. The restaurant downstairs was packed full every single night we were there as well. We went one night and had fondue and it was very enjoyable. If you are looking for a VERY reasonably priced stay in the Interlaken/Bernese Oberland area, this is a very good choice and I would stay here again for sure.

Spent one night here. Got a high floor room with a view of the mountains. What a treat! The downside of the high floor was carrying the bags all the way up, but it was worth it. The same girl checked us in and out efficiently and was helpful in deciding on activities for the afternoon and the next day (this stay was a quick add-on to our trip when a business meeting was changed, so we came to this area without much research.)

Room was petite. Bathroom was petite. But the hotel building is very old, so we could understand some of the limitations and it was just fine.

Dinner was extremely enjoyable. The presentation and food were really very well done. Our waiter was very kind and understanding and offered to translate some items into English for us.

The stay here was an unexpected bonus to our trip, and one of our best memories! Delightful!

Room Tip: Room with view toward mountains! WOW!
