Took a quick weekend break here from Milan. Arriving at Lugano railway station , it is about a half hour transfer by taxi, about 70 CHF, although coming back we used a transfer arranged by the hotel which was a flat rate 60CHF. On arrival first impressions were very good, the hotel as a lovely modern reception area and lounge, all very modern with stripped wood and minimalist furnishing. We were treated to a glass of prosecco while they took the bags upstairs and the very helpful receptionist explained everything. We had a garden view room, but it was on the corner of the hotel, so it effectively had a lake view as well, which was a bonus. The room itself was very clean and modern and very light, with stripped wood floors and a very comfortable bathroom. We had gone specifically for the Spa and so headed straight down there after checking in. The indoor pool area is fantastic, I became particularly attached to the warm saline pool, with its grotto effect and changing coloured lights, where I ended up floating around for some length of time . The main indoor pool was also excellent, every hour or so they change the water effects so there are whirpoools, a waterfall and various other effects, you can also swim out to an outdoor section of the pool. The heat area with the saunas and the Turkish baths was also very pleasant, when i was not in the saline pool , I was in the Turkish bath. It was all blissfully tranquil down there, having left a particularly stressful morning at work, after a couple of hours in the Spa, i was so totally relaxed that I gave up checking the blackberry messages ( sorry boss!) Due to its location the hotel is totally quiet and tranquil, the only drawback was that we were not blessed with the weather, so there was no sunbathing around the outside pool. We ate in the hotel, due to the inclement weather the terrace was not available, but the charming maitre d managed to get us a window view both times, despite the restaurant being very busy on Saturday night. The service was very good, my only slight niggle was with the menu choice, I thought it was fine and the food very good, my friend thought some simpler and lighter additions to the menu might have been in order, especially pasta without cream or cheese. We did have a slight complication when we tried to go off menu. The breakfast buffet was very good. Anyway it was a very pleasant stay and extremely relaxing, the hotel is of a very high standard and the spa facilities were excellent, after two days I had entered a very relaxed place, unfortunately have to go back to work tomorrow.
