The hotel is nicely located. It's close to Sion, from where you can drive up to the glacier or to the big dam with the bluish lake. The hotel has a big vineyard, where you can walk and taste some grapes with the hotel's manager. He will describe you different varieties of local wines and help with the routes to the glaciers/dams. Overall the stuff is very friendly. They also gave us some bottles of wine as present. They have a sauna and the pool on the ground floor and they are nice. Not free but not expensive. There were not so many guests in the hotel and there were no guests in sauna, so we relaxed there for three hours alone and enjoyed the stay overall.

A local funeral party have been litterely thrown away after a lunch of more than 60 people. The grass have been mown noisily to prepare a porsche show just as the party were still rembering their love one and about to go. So tactless and not acceptable for a hotel of that standing.

We stayed here for two nights (from friday 4 till sunday 6 may). We were pleased to stay in this charming hotel, the family suite are spacious and clean with big bathroom. All the staff is very kind and helpful. Nice grounds, quiet location and really nice swimming pool.Breakfast was ok, pretty much the norm for Switzerland, with no hot options but overall good quality. Till sunday morning. With breakfast time we were discomfort surprised. At saturday evening a footballteam from Zürich, the grasshoppers, stayed for one night in the hotel and the staff did not allow us , the regular guests, in the breakfast room, because a bunch of footballers had breakfast at the same time. Instead of breakfast buffet, we received a plate of sandwiches and fillings. The grading provided to us by the staff was forced on, was not our choice. Therefore I do not disturbed to the ban and with me other guests. And took us to breakfast buffet those products, with which we could make our breakfast a pleasure. That normal guests must yield to a bunch of football players is in my opinion immoral. In my personal opinion a footballer is nothing better than the normal guest. It is even so, that groups should be put separately, but not in the normal guest premises, such as a breakfast room with buffet breakfast. Overall, this is a very relaxing establishment, and although not cheap, was much better value than the various alternatives we looked at. And in a weekend without a bunch of footballers it's relaxing as usual.I hope that the staff here has learned something. And in the future a separate group of guests accomodate in separate locations, not the locations of the personal guests.

your's sincerly,
Chris Ivens and Christine Schreiber

We stayed @ Hotel Des Vignes for 2 nights from 9-11 Apr. St Leonard is a small village about 6 kms from Sion and is surrounded by lovely vineyards. The hotel is set in tranquil surroundings with a vineyard just beside it.

Hotel Des Vignes is located about 10 mins walk from St Leonard train station and probably the biggest hotel there. We stayed in a spacious split level Duplex room (222) with a bathroom each on the lower and upper level. Each level has either twin beds or double beds and this is comfortable for families or 4 adults. It costs Chf 485 per night with breakfast. It is not cheap but room was spacious and furniture new and functional.

The windows on the ground floor can be opened fully outwards to enjoy the fresh cool spring air. There is a garden below and we heard birds chirping melodiously.

We requested for a hot water flask and 4 cups and these were provided speedily and with friendly smiles. The male manager was especially warm and affable and as it was Easter, we were given many chocolate bunnies and jelly beans. We were pleasantly indulged by these sweet treats! Breakfast was more than ample with assortment of buns, cheeses, juices, fresh fruits and a wide range of Twining teas.

We had dinner at a restaurant (Auberge Du Pont) to the left of the hotel. Our meal of 2 pizzas and 2 soups costs CHF 74.

As we had a lot of bags, we asked the manager if it was possible to provide complimentary transfer of our luggages to the train station on checkout date. He kindly obliged our request and we are grateful as it was drizzling and will be difficult to drag our bags in the rain.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the gift of a bottle of wine from their vineyard upon checking out. Hotel Des Vignes, well done! You have won a fan! Thank you for the warm welcome and great service.

We stayed here for one night, having originally intended staying in nearby Sion but weren't impressed with any of the options.
Public spaces were beautiful and very relaxing, lots of sofas, nice water feature and open log fire. Nice grounds, quiet location and really nice swimming pool. Rooms were a bit disappointing - quite plain, curtain and bulb requiring fixing, tv remote control with back hanging off , none of which you would expect in a 4 star hotel. On the plus side, room was spacious with comfortable beds. Breakfast was ok, pretty much the norm for Switzerland, with no hot options but overall good quality.
Staff were really friendly and helpful, and gave us a bottle of local wine on our departure. When we checked in, receptionist phoned a nearby restaurant and arranged a table for us, as the hotel's restaurant was not open.
Overall, this is a very relaxing establishment, and although not cheap, was much better value than the various alternatives we looked at.

Set amongst the vineyards in the beautiful region of Valais, in a village close to Sion, this hotel was a lovely surprize. The staff were friendly and efficient, and made us feel very welcome. The hotel has an understated elegance, with comfortable reception rooms and plenty of garden space. Our room was functional, extremely clean and quiet, and the views of spectacular mountains and vines made it an enjoyable stopover. The restaurant is very pleasant, with both indoor and outdoor areas, and great service - our table was tucked away under trees in a charming garden. We will certainly return, an excellent base to explore all the area has to offer - which is a great deal.
