The Visit to the Oaks was a little disappointing in it being not as I had expected it to be. It was a weekend so the place was busy and therefore very noisey. This made it extremely difficult to hold a conversation with the person you were with and so like everyone else you had to vitually shout to make yourself heard,. Not what I want when I go for a meal with company.
The service was good and food nicely presented, but we thought that the portions were small and consequently over priced for what you received. Most of the dishes were very nice, but would advise one to avoid the steaks, these were exspensive and felt and tasted as if they had been thawed out in a microwave to order and then grilled making them quite tough and difficult to cut and eat.
I would be reluctant to recommend this premise, in my opinion it was too noisey, portions were very small and over priced.

Went to this fairly new place today for Sunday lunch after a few friends had visited and said it was OK. Firstly I didn't think the place had any atmosphere, even when it got busy. The chairs were hugely uncomfortable I managed to find a cushion on a nearby bench to make it better. 3 of us ordered, 2 the potted crab and 1 the soup. The starter arrived and the crab can only be described as bland , It needs a bit of lemon juice or something to cheer it up. The strange orange oil topping was not good. The soup was delivered almost cold. We had to send it back and ask for a new one which arrived some 10 minus later, but this time warm.. certainly not hot. The mains arrived and these were actually very nice The beef was delicious & so was the pork but the crackling was beyond my teeth. Once again not very hot.... Desert 2 sticky toffee puddings and 1 cherry tart . The sticky toffee pudding had been microwaved , the edges were overdone and very hard and the toffee was boiled.and then left to once again go cold. It was topped with creme fraiche.. what it really needs was a generous helping of cream or ice cream, the whole thing was very dry. The cherry pudding was also dry and served with barely a spoonful of custard sauce. And finally having ordered a G&T was told they did not have Gordons Gin, who on earth does not have the most basic of gins that you can get everywhere. overall the service was good and they were very attentive and helpful with the soup but the food failed to impress. We won't be going again

Nice place great service and food very nice. Menu could be improved more fish options, portions quite small but still very tasty. I had the Pan Fried Cod on spring onion mash. Needed a veg included in the price & cod was very small.

Would still recommend this place and will come again

We visited on the off chance and because others had recommended it.
The food was some of the best we've eaten and the duck I had was probably the best I have ever had. It was quite full and yet the service was excellent, being both quick and with a smile. The whole experience made for a great evening and we've already booked to return.
