If you ever pass the Grand-St-Bernard tunnel (or, better in the Summer, the pass), linking Italy to Switzerland (Valais), do stop in Orsières (CH) to have a meal at the Restaurant des Alpes. First, Orsières does not look all that attractive seen from the road. Once you are inside, the dwindling village street leads you to the central place where you can have a meal that has nothing to do with what one would expect from a mountain village: it's top-class, high-end (priced accordingly), with a menu or à la carte dining and an excellent wine list (or by the glass). We had a morels and asparagus risotto that was to die for, accompanied by a delicious Petite Arvine from the region.
The only drawback was the service: the waiter tending our table seemed not to care and having some ither issues on his mind, a pity given the experience
