“Great family site”
Reviewed July 23, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in the riverside caravan which was spotless and had a lovely secluded table and chairs next to a little stream! The site was beautifully maintained with stunning scenery throughout. There are two swimming pools which were again spotlessly clean with plenty of seating available. The on site pub and shop were reasonably priced and staff in both were always friendly and helpful with a good selection of food, drinks and beachware. We will definatly be returning as soon as possible!

I took my daughter to Watermouth Cove on one of the Sun newspaper breaks, I've done loads, but have to say, this was by FAR the best. We had a very warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble, they even opened the shop back up for me so I could buy milk and butter. All the staff in the shop, bar, takeaway and even the gardener and handyman were really friendly. We were right near the owners house, and he told us to knock for him or his wife at any time, day or night, if we needed anything at all.
The location is superb, pretty little cove one side and harbour the other - both featured in Enid Blyton's Famous Five books!! The cave is amazing, my daughter and I loved exploring down on the beach and over the headland. There are two outdoor pools, one heated, so we managed to have a swim too, when the sun came out!
We stayed in a chalet which was basic but spotless - and possibly the best equipped as far as kitchen pots and pans and utensils etc. that I have ever experienced...there were 3 corkscrews!! Always vital!! Having said that, it was perfect for the two of us. Had we been a family of four, however, an extra settee would have been needed. Take a bathmat (we had to use one of our towels) and loo paper, as none is provided. For those who like ambient lighting, take tealights, as there is only a main central light, no lamp.
There is so much to do nearby, Watermouth Castle is literally seconds away, a short drive away is Hele Bay (can highly recommend Hele Billy's Bar & Restaurant) as is Ilfracombe, and a little further are Lee Bay (DON'T cycle it!!!!! WAY too steep) Woolacombe etc. The Cliff Railway at Lynton & Lynmouth is fun and the view from the top is stunning! Having said that, if you had lovely weather for your whole stay, you probably wouldn't want to venture too far! Having the cove on your doorstep is just wonderful!
We will definitely be back, probably to camp, as some of the pitches had views of the Atlantic one side and Watermouth Harbour the other. Bliss... A little gem :-) Highly recommended.

Booked and stayed 3 nights and took advantage, with a tent, the use of electrical hook up. Found the facilities clean, well kept and orderly. The local sights are out of this world as well as the private beach on offer; a must for any pirate enthusiast. The service from the site owner and George the handyman was attentive and personal but the only qualm was the check in procedure as we waited nearly 20 minutes for a new lady on reception to finish her pointless chat while myself and others were waiting. Overall 8 out of 10.

It saddens me to read the reviews below, I can't comment on the chalets as I went here on my first ever caravan outing with wife, daughter and our old bearded collie. Jim is the main man at the park and is an absolute star......nothing fazes him and nothing is to much trouble ( I lost my caravan keys!!). The cove and surrounding headland is beautiful and there is a little harbour.. Opposite is a Victorian castle that is open to the public. There is a clubhouse and a local pub just a short walk away. The pool wasn't open yet but there is more than enough to keep the kids happy......little wonder that the Famous Five was filmed here.
I have left the caravan here and have booked the next two holidays including the Jubilee.......can't wait to return

we'd never been to this part of before and booked simply because we could have the sea on our doorstep, we arrived after a long journey abit early but were made very welcome and even had bacon butties made for us because we hadn't eaten, charged for but its not every day you get a kitchen opened just for you because you're hungry!. The owner/family and staff were very welcoming and very helpful from the minute we drove in :) There's two swimming pools (one heated, its lovely) which have security codes for safety of small children and also deters people staying elsewhere from wandering over. There's a small arcade and a pool table, also a play area, the usual on-site shop which as usual is a little pricey but there's not much you can't get from there including kayak hire. The bar also serves food at good prices and was of a very good standard (also take-away), laundry room is well equipped with the usual plus ironing board and good sized sinks for washing by hand if required ( a charge for washing/drying which ive forgotten but it was in line with everyone else as i remember). The toilet and shower blocks were clean but shower floors were always soaked with water but that's just a personal bug-bear when a place is busy. The cove is within walking distance of Watermouth Castle and also the little harbour which is lovely, shops etc are within easy reach and the delights of Ilfracombe and especially Woolacombes fantastic beach are an easy car ride away with plenty of parking but get there early if the suns shining!. This is a beautiful area to stay and that first day we RAN down to the cove i could of been anywhere in the world it was so breathtaking. Watermouth cove isn't one of the huge garish parks but if you want a safer family orientated holiday without the constant flashing lights etc then Watermouth Cove is for you, if our travels send us back that way we'd certainly stay at The Cove again. ...The Big Sheep is also a must visit..review to follow soon.

Room Tip: as we have a touring caravan we didn't use the chalets.

-2 but we cannot rate this low!!
We originally booked a three day holiday break with friends but due to other commitments, we couldn't join our friends until the Sunday afternoon. We were put in one of the chalets which are supposed to hold 4-6 people. These chalets are absolutely dreadful. Although we were told to take our own linen, the place was nothing more than a basic dirty unkept shell. There was no toilet paper, the shower leaked terribly, the carpet was filthy, the mattress on one double bed was covered in dirty brown stains and the other pull down double bed was so dirty, we refused to lie on it and there was no quilt or cover on it anyway. The paint is also peeling from all of the ceilings. My friend’s husband spent most of the night killing flies, earwigs and a host of other unwelcome visitors that seemed to crawl and fly from every orifice in the room.
Fortunately, we only stayed the one night, whereas our friends had to endure two nights of hell. It was so awful, we found it quite funny in the end, but if we had booked for the week, I would be insisting on my money back and compensation to boot.

A shame really, because the location is very pretty, but if you’re thinking of booking here, don't book into a chalet; I think they were once used as staff accommodation or it's a converted toilet block.

Room Tip: Ask to see real time photographs of the rooms before you send any money. Also ask if th pool/club is...
