“Wonderful lodge in the most beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2013

We are just back from an amazing trip to Lyngen Lodge - thank you so much to Elisabeth, Pernilla, Ian, Charlotte, Natasha and the team for creating some fantastic memories. The lodge deserves the reputation it has developed as being the place to go in the region for experiencing the environment whilst enjoying top class luxury. Nothing is too much trouble and you are immediately made to feel at home in the cozy lodge. The food is delicious, the decoration of the rooms and lounge area is beautiful and the hot tub has fantastic views. We took a couple of really well organised trips with the local experts, to go dog sledging and also ice fishing, both of which gave a great experience of the amazing surroundings. The visit was topped of with hours spent standing outside the lodge gazing up at the Northern Lights, lighting up the mountains and reflecting off the water, whilst enjoying the hot drinks provided by the lodge. If you are travelling to this region, you really need to experience this wonderful place.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the fjord and you can wake up with a stunning view across the water to the mountai...

Lyngen Lodge is an experience. An experience of warm and intimate luxury looking at a picture perfect landscape: a shining fjord rounded by snow covered mountains.
It is a small wooden lodge with only 8 rooms, yes strangely so small but so nice. The structure is beatiful showing warm interiors with a mountain style but very refined and with touch of design.
But the main difference is given by the professional attitude of the british managers of the structure, able to deserve all the best looking at your main interests (you are fully satisfied if you like to have a bath on the outside hydropool with view on the fjord or you want to experience a top level excursion of ski alpinism around).
You are also very rewarded by a first class dinner where you can appreciate some local products cooked with taste and natural ingredients.
The atmosphere and in general the level are at the top and consequently the prices are surely high. But the experience, at least for one night, cannot be missed. And I cannot imagine what could be the atmosphere during the months you can see more snow and the northern lights in the sky. Probably an ultimate pleasure.

I visited Lyngen Lodge with a friend from March 16th for a week.
It seems incredible that Lyngen Lodge can provide luxury so far inside the Arctic circle, the team at Lyngen Lodge were excellent with us; Steve is a very talented chef, Pernilla a great host, nothing is too much trouble for the smiling Lynda and Matt is a superb captain on the boat.
We loved the ski touring, Mikael is a brilliant guide and offers "client service" something most guides I have found don't, the organisation of the lodge ski touring is clearly a safety first approach so the adventures are planned in a safe as possible environment and our group was planned with skiers of similar standard. We had a great week skiing with a bunch of really nice people who made the experience unforgettable.
If you want to experience ski-touring in Northern Norway in the hands of experts offering excellent service then Lyngen Lodge is the place for you!

We spent a fantastic ski touring week in Lyngen Lodge from March 16th onwards. Everything was done to meet the highest quality standards. First on ski touring, I needed to be reassured after the avalanche accident that happened in the region a year ago. We got a very clear briefing by the lodge owner first thing sunday morning after our arrival and the local guide who spent the week touring with us was extremely vigilant, professional and friendly. The daily tours started mostly at 9am after a yummy breakfast for a climb up to 1100-1400m and offered all breathtaking views and amazing skiing. Now on the lodge, imagine coming back from a 5-7 hours tour, to a place of confort, wellbeing and warmth. Tea and cakes followed by a sauna or outside jaccuzzi and then ultimate relaxation by the fire in the very cosy living room of the lodge became our daily routine. Supper was served at 7.30-8.00 and food thanks to a very creative and talented english chef exceeded all our expectations. The rooms are indeed small but it didn't bother us at all, they fit the concept and are extremely well decorated. The staff is just extremely friendly and helpful and must have invented a receipe for "good mood". Only minor drawbacks: no proper coffee machine, rooms on the ground floor are more noisy than ones on the first floor. A place to recommend !!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor

Pleased you enjoyed your skiing with us and that you felt relaxed and confident with our guides. Just to add some clarity to your initial concerns regarding the avalanche accident in 2012, the incident had no direct connection with the Lyngen Lodge or any of our guests. We are a rescue support point for the region and when requested by the authorities we and our guides may be called to assist the resuce services.

Safety, Enjoyment, Learning = A Positive Mountain Experience

Thanks

We stayed at Lyngen lodge in March 2013. Pretty remote location....The mini-bus trip from Tromso airport takes 2.45 hours. As we arrived we were at first a bit surprised not to be directly by the water as the picture on the webiste gives you the impression that there is no obstacle between the lodge and the fjord. In fact, there is a road. But this is actually not important at all, as you have no noise and the view is even more beautiful since the lodge lies 30 meters above sea level.
The lodge is extremely cosy, built with great taste and material. The staff is incredibly nice and under the lodge manager's leadership they will fulfil all your needs. The food is absolutely outstanding (thanks to the English cook). We also had a great guide from Austria. His track record of climbing achievements was amazing but above all he was extremely professional, very nice as a person and a great singer! The lodge, the equipment (like skis, boots), the cars and the boat are of highest quality and contribute to making your stay very enjoyable.
Drawbacks? The rooms, which are quite nice but very small (probably around 10 sq meters, bathroom not included). If you compare to what you will find in Canada this is a bit disappointing. In addition they did not have the right size of sheets for the double-sized bed...The price: not cheap...but everything is amazingly expensive in Norway!

Very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us during the skiing season. For your information and those reading reviews we are reconstructing all bedrooms and doubling the sizes which will result in increased comfort for all future guests later in 2013. We do indeed have a road which is hidden from view, it is necessary to have this so guests may reach the lodge. We hope to welcome you back for a summer visit to see the vast contrast in nature during the midnight sun summer months.

The main purpose of our trip was to go and see Aurora Borealis and we were not disappointed. We stayed at the Lodge mid Feb 2013 for 5 nights and the amazing NL appeared over four nights out of our 5 nights stay. A very pampered way to see the Lights, just step outside the Lodge to view the magical light show. We have no complaints about our accommodation and found them adequate as we only go to our room to sleep. The view from the communal lounge, library and dining table is breath taking. Beautiful Lodge with personal chef and all activities taken care of - a wonderful way to spoil yourself. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly and warm. Our transfer from Tromso hotel and back to Tromso airport were provided by Lynden Lodge, 3hr scenic way by road in and via two ferries on the way out.

Tom gave an introductory talk to all new guests but prices for the extra activities were never mentioned. Suggest for price list for all activities to be displayed so people know what they are paying. Tom was always around offering help to anyone who needs assistance with camera to take photos of the NL. His advice and assistance were invaluable. In hindsight, the 2hr photography course (NOK770) is unneccesary. Photography course should be held during the day and not in the evening to clash with viewing the NL. The NL came in the middle of the photography class and those people miss out an hour of light show. Tom's camera tips would have been sufficient.

We did the snow-shoeing on our own. Ice fishing and a quick spin on the snow mobile was fun. Only one person caught one fish out of our group of ten people. Dog sledding was awesome and the dogs can really run. Pernilla took my daughter on her first cross country skiing, a one to one personal tuition. Sure, the activities were expensive but the experience was unique which we can't get in Australia.

Next time we will hire a car to get to The Lodge and to have a bit of freedom to discover the area.

My partner and I stayed at Lyngen Lodge in Feb 2013. The location is wonderful and in a very beautiful area. Unfortunately while we were there they had the wettest weather in 47 years which meant low cloud and not much to see.

The food is wonderful. I give 5 stars for the food. They will accommodate and dietary requirement.

The rooms are small but you don't spend much time in them so this is fine. The bathrooms are modern and very clean.

Don't be fooled though, it is very very expensive, not only the lodge but Norway in general. For example for three nights at the lodge in dog sledding and ice fishing and one glass of wine per day it cost us over $3000AUD. We fine the alcohol too expensive. $16 for a beer - a bit to much I think.

If you have enough money - I would go again any day of the week.

My tips would be - ask for a room on the top floor. We had one on the ground and it was very noisy.

Also don't be afraid to hire a car and drive there - the drive is long (3hours) but the roads are fine and this is coming from Aussies who have never driven on snow let alone ice!

Elizabeth, Grahame and Tom where wonderful. They are inviting and helpful all the time.

My partner and I loved talking to the other guests and have a wonderful time with them - I think this really makes the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor. The rooms near the entrance and very very noisy.

We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us. Norway due to it's high index rate is overall a more costly country than many other countries in the world. Your comment on alcohol prices are actually set and monopolized by the goverment and there is nothing any hotel or restaurant establishement can do to change the taxes on prices on beer, wine or spirits.

The lodge is built as a timber mountain lodge and we are aware the rooms are smaller than a standard hotel city room. In light of this, we are reconstructing all bedrooms and doubling their size and improving soundproofing. Construction will be completed in 2013.

We hope to welcome you back for a summer midnight sun visit in the near future.
Many thanks again.
