Nick - thanks for your welcome, the fresh cake, the garden games and the sunshine. What a wonderful cottage that suited our every need. Thanks again.

“Hidden little gem”
Reviewed June 30, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We were all impressed at this cottage. The photos on the website do not do it justice. It is well laid out. We were greeted by Fiona and shown around. She also brought over a coffee cake as part of the welcome.

The location is quiet and off the beaten path.

The spiral staircase is nice and the rooms are well laid out. There is a nice patio and access to a BBQ.

Just a great place to unwind.

Next time we are in the area we will book again.

“Delightful and spacious home from home”
Reviewed June 3, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

The Old School is far enough off the A90 to be peaceful, but close enough to be only minutes from Brechin. There is roomy parking on the self-contained site. The conversion of the little school to a 3-bedroom, 3 en-suite, with large living area, is quite spectacular. It's modern, clean and comfortable and cleverly designed, with lots of extras and a very 'Australian' style - 4th toilet in a cloakroom by the front door, separate laundry, lots of lighting options, games and books, garden table and chairs. The spiral staircase has shallow steps and wasn't any kind of problem for us. The kitchen is fully equipped, with more than the basic minimum. I can't speak too highly of this lovely house. We also appreciated the lovely welcome from Nick and Fiona on our arrival, and the cake and fresh flowers. I can think of nothing that would have improved our stay in any way. It was a treat.

Stayed here while working near Brechin, couldn't believe the size of the place inside, pictures didn't do it justice.all rooms are good size and have great showers. Whole house is warm and cosy even in middle of winter . Massive kitchen area. I had brought some of my own kitchen utensils but no need as everything was already here for me. Everything very modern and you can see there's a lot of work been put into the place.Wifi was perfect. The owner nick was next door to help with anything but I couldn't find one fault. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be back . Also coffee cake was lovely on arrival and a nice touch.

“First Class holiday accomodation”

Not a thing to fault about the Old School. Every detail within the property is tastefully taken care of and the place is maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Comfortable beds, warm and cosy overall and in a peaceful location still handy for many days out and walks. Ideal for a family or 3 couples thanks to the 3 bedrooms all being en-suite. We have stayed in many holiday rentals over the last 10 years and this ranks as one of the best. The home made cake on arrival was an extra nice touch.

“Super spacious house and garden.”

The Old School is a fabulous holiday home for a family being very well equipped and spacious. En-suite bathrooms to each bedroom was such a benefit with three children. Plus the large garden [with bbq available] was great for tiring kids out in the evening. Great location; easy access to coast [Montrose had great play area for kids by the beach], Dundee had lots to do on a rainy day, and the Angus glens. We loved Peel Farm craft and coffee shop at Lintrathen near Kirriemuir, super large shop in converted barn and near Reekie LInn waterfall walk. Loved riverside walk at Blairgowrie too and Cargills restaurant on riverside.
Many thoughtful touches at The Old School such as toys, book case and of course the coffee cake! Will look forward to returning, highly recommended.

“Fantastic, relaxing stay.”

We booked the The Old School as part of an extended holiday to celebrate the wedding of a close friend (more like family really). We started in Pitlochry before moving to Careston for the second part of the wedding. As the reception was starting at 16:00hrs, we were allowed to book in early so we could get ready (thank you Fiona for getting the place ready in time). The whole house was spotlessly clean and in very good condition.

My wife and I stayed here with our 2 adult sons so having all 3 bedrooms with their own en-suites was very useful. The water pressure is not very good however but Fiona did warn us about this and said a plumber was due to sort it out after we left. Hopefully that has now been done.

The house is beautifully renovated and decorated and has everything you could need for a weeks stay in the country side. Despite being in the country, it has easy access to Brechin and the main roads but is far enough away to not hear anything. If you need anything you only have to ask Nick or Fiona who are excellent hosts.

One of the things we like is peace and quiet which is just what this house offers. There is a good wi-fi connection at the house for those that need that, however getting a mobile phone signal is very hit and miss. There is no landline but when I mentioned this to Nick, he said he had one if guests requested it. I would recommend requesting one as if the worst came to the worst and there was a fire or other emergency, there would be no way to summon help. Sadly, we only mentioned this as we were leaving but it's there if you want it.

Our friends in Brechin were very impressed with this holiday home and will encourage other family and friends to use it (as we will). We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the Old School and will definitely use it again.

Thank you Nick and Fiona for a fabulous stay.
