Description: The current owners Johnny and Annie Portman have had The Kings Arms since May 2013 and have since then been striving to bring this pub back to a traditional country pub with a few modern twists! Nestling in the South Downs, The Kings Arms is a traditional English country pub in an historic timber framed building, dating back to the 17th Century. This Grade II listed building has been lovingly restored to its former splendour with modern touches offering a taste of how a real pub should be in a relaxed yet professional environment welcoming travellers and locals alike. Why not sit on one of our sofas by a cosy fire in the winter or in our large beer garden with stunning views in the summer months. If you want to extend you stay with us, we also have six en suite rooms in a converted stable block. Why not explore the surrounding area which is home to the Cowdray Estate famous for polo and golf, Goodwood Racecourse and also a number of beautiful National Trust walks and cycling routes.

We had a delicious lunch in great surroundings with a warm inviting fire. The cauliflour soup was exceptionally good. The fish and chips were crunchy and had great flavour although the mushy peas were a little too mushy and more like a puree. The wine was crisp and fresh.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. The service was quick but we did not feel rushed.
The pub has been beautifully decorated.

Arrived at 7.30 and ordered at 8, we were one of three tables in there at the time. Five minutes after we ordered the waitress came back and said they had run out of the starters we wanted. At 8pm they had run out? Also why didn't she know before we ordered? I Asked what bottled beer they had, as they weren't on the wine list, she could only name two as she had "forgotten the rest". My wife asked for Zinfandel wine by the glass and was told this particular wine was not offered by the glass, the alternative rose by the glass was not offered, presumably because the girl didn't know it was on the menu. For desert we ordered Eton mess, five minutes later, sorry the Eton mess won't have meringue because we have run out..
Seriously? If you want to be taken seriously as restaurant employ staff and teach them how to wait tables, properly.

Will definitely not be returning.

After a patchy reputation and ownership changes over the last few years, the Kings Arms is back. The new owners are making a good job of this lovely old Sussex pub. We visited recently for lunch at the weekend and whilst the menu is a bit limited for light meals, we had an excellent lunch, served by very friendly staff, proud of the changes they have made to the pub. Our only criticism is that the interior was a little cold and the log fire needed a little more attention to compensate. We very much enjoyed our visit and will be returning soon. It looks as though they have also made good changes to the garden which overlooks the local countryside.

This local pub has become our favourite to go to recently since it changed hands last year. Living locally its great to be able to find a pub that sells decent ale (Harvey's) in this case and a good selection of white wines, so two very happy customers. The added benefit is the food is very well priced and just right. If you can't face cooking dinner, come here instead as the choice is excellent and will fill you up with no problem. The fish and chips is particularly great, the fish is caught locally and just falls off the bone when you eat it, bliss. My only criticism and this is really for trip advisor is why is it shown as being wheelers of st. James when it is now very thankfully back to its original name of the kings arms?

We ended up here after a disastrous lunch nearby. We had a warm welcome, and great service in a lovely relaxed environment. One thing - it may be an idea to get a fire going, rather than candles in the grate on colder days? We may have found the ideal meeting place for friends, and will definitely give Banyan a try on another visit!
