We stayed in Casa Susegad last week for unfortunately only 1 night. We went there after a 10 days yoga retreat on the Patnam Beach and I admit I was a little sad leaving our beach paradise. Once arrived, I just felt at home. Beautiful place with very nice rooms (and hot water!), lovely meals. Staff and owners make your stay even more special... We started the dream with a lovely visit of the 5 steps gardens... Just go and get spoilt!

Not your usual hotel, all sparkle with little sincerity, no this is the real thing.
Carol and Norman are genuinely welcoming and take great pleasure in getting their guests settled in and feeling at home and welcome from the start.
We loved every minute of our four day stay and were looked after and spoiled, with great company, food, snacks and their detailed knowledge about Loutolim and many of its residents and history.
We usually dine out in the evening but every one of our four evenings was a gastronomic treat, with wonderful home cooked food, served alfresco outside your room or in the communal dining room. Whichever works for you, works for your hosts and staff. All the staff are lovely, including the resident pets. Keep it up Carol and Norman. We hope to revisit soon.

Staying here was a definite highlight of our India trip. We were very well looked after from the moment we were collected. Have to say that the photos don't do it justice. Beautiful house and extensive gardens with an amazing level of service from a very friendly team. The pets were gorgeous and very well behaved. You can laze around the property all day, or there are plenty things to see and do nearby too. Loved the games room. We were so so sad to leave, and would recommend to anyone.

Our 2 days with Carole and Norman and the other guests at Casa Susegad were a highlight of our trip to Goa. From the moment we walked up the steps into the entrance hall we realised we were somewhere very special and the welcome we received from Carole and Norman was like being greeted by old friends. Everything was perfect lazing by the pool ,sipping cocktails at the bar, dining on delicious Goan food prepared by Joanita with Carole and Norman and the other guests in the magnificent dining room at the huge table.
Casa Susegad is a treasure trove of interesting antiques, artefacts and amazing photographs taken by Carole. They have restored this beautiful Portuguese small mansion sympathetically and with great style.
The review would not be complete without mention of the delightful menagerie...the most appealing collection of cats and dogs... My husband spent the first evening after dinner with a cat on his lap and a dog at his side patting and stroking both while our hosts and some other guests played cards.
Thank you so much Carole and Norman you have created a very special place and we cant wait to come back.

Its worth visiting India just to visit this house. Having travelled around Goa for 3 weeks, arriving at Casa Susgard is like finding an oasis in the jungle. The perfect chance to get the sand offand properly relax. Everything about this gem of a find is designed to make your stay perfect. From the crystal clear pool to the manicured but infinitely peaceful gardens to the stateliness of the dining room, to the intriguing artefacts from around india and the complete comfort of the bedrooms this place is thought through to the finest detail. Then there's your hosts. Basil and Lisa (2 of the resident rescue dogs) vie with Norman and Carol (your human comrades) to be the most friendly and helpful. Backed by local talent in the kitchen and bar respectively by Joanita and Peter, there's no job too large or small for them to fulfil to make your stay more comfortable. We would also highly recommend the massages and the yoga class, both of which were the best we had in india and this opinion is based on extensive research! When asked our 4 year old said this was his favourite Place of the whole holiday. He has very good taste. I'd like to take this chance to say thanks to you all for making our dream holiday complete, and rest assured we will be back as soon as possible. PS - the sandwiches and coffee you packed us off with at 5am this morning really hit the spot.

I'll start by saying that this was, by far, the best place we stayed in India, not just in terms of comfort and style, but from the warmness of welcome provided from our hosts and the ever attentive staff, and the exquisite quality of the food.

We had some trouble arriving to Casa Susegad as the driver arranged by our previous resort didn't know where he was going, and it was an arduous drive, but the feelings of fatigue dissipated as soon as we arrived. I believe it was Joanita who welcomed us, with Peter taking our bags to our room. We were instantly offered lunch, which we quickly accepted, and drinks were served.

We stayed in the turquoise room, which was beautiful, the attention to detail in the design and decoration of the rooms is clear to see. The bed was huge (a luxury we hadn't had everywhere in India), the welcome pack was laid out and explained to us, and a selection of books were provided in our room. The bathroom was huge, with a large shower area , and a dispenser for shampoo, shower gel and body lotion (I think!). The rooms lead out onto the pool area, with greenery surrounding the grounds, a separate area where massages can be provided in advance, or yoga if you wish. If you wait around you may also see the troop of monkeys who pass through once or twice a day. Exploring the grounds at a leisurely pace will take you an hour alone!

The house itself is separated into large rooms, each with a different purposes. The dining room has a table big enough for 15+ people to eat at, and there is a television you can use, as well as numerous games if you wish to stay inside.

Regarding the food, we were lucky enough to be visiting at a time when a new menu was being devised, and we were more than willing guinea pigs for this culinary delight. We stayed for three nights and were treated to different dishes each evening, the chickpea curry, and the Fejouada being personal favourites of mine. The way the food was presented felt like being in a Michelin starred restaurant (not that I've eaten at one, but it was a step up from the fine dining restaurants I have eaten in).

Peter is a trained mixologist (an extremely good one!) and will whip you up a cocktail for any mood or weather (note that we bought our own alcohol as they were awaiting a bar license at the time of our visit). We sometimes enjoyed our drinks sat at the bar chatting with Carole and Norman, or admiring the fireflies which float around the trees after sunset.

A special mention to Carole and Norman, as we have never stayed somewhere where you were made to feel so welcome, and part of the family, as we were here. It was disappointing we only stayed three nights here, they took us to the local weekly market, on a private tour around the area, and we almost went fishing also but the weather didn't permit it. We had a couple of great nights with them both, laughing and sharing stories, it felt like being with old friends, reunited for the first time in a long time.

In short, if you are travelling to Goa, this place should be top of your list. Relax, enjoy your stay with excellent hosts and staff who will cater to your every need. My only regret is our onward flight wouldn't permit us to stay longer.

Thanks again to you both

PS - I accidentally pressed 5 for the Fitness Suite as I was clicking 5's all the way down, and now don't know how to remove that rating. Casa Susegad doesn't have a fitness suite (If they did though, i'm sure it would be a 5!)

This is the mantra of Casa Susegad........and they achieve it very well!
From the warm welcome by the very friendly hosts to the moment you depart, this is a place where you can leave all your troubles behind and forget about the outside world.
The old Portuguese house is comfortable and full of character. The rooms are comfortable and the food is very good.
However, that is only half the story. You seem to become one of the family immediately! Everything is very relaxed and informal.
The staff are excellent and efficient and nothing seems like too much trouble.
I wish I could have stayed longer!
