Visited La Table twice in 2011 and twice in July 2012. Last years experiences were amazing; food was some of the best restaurant food I had ever had. This year's food was still above average, but the service wasn't. After being seated at our table by a young waitress, she proceeded to ask for our drinks order in very fast French, despite clearly knowing from our arrival that we were not from France. We managed to get through this and order as we relish the opportunity to converse in French when abroad. This was despite her not making any effort to entertain our misinterpretation of some of the aperitifs on the menu. After she delivered our drinks, we waited a further 20 minutes and the waiter stil had not come to us for our order. As no water had been delivered to the table, I went up to the waitress who was idly standing at a counter and asked her for 'water'. She could not have been more confused by my request. I changed the request to 'Eau', but this added to her confusion. Again, whilst making me feel I was completely incomprehensible, she turned to the head water who explained to her what I was looking for. The head waiter, who normally is friendly and accommodating was equally brisk this evening and when we eventually received our food, it was lovely. Unfortunately the lack of the personal touch from the staff this evening was a big disappointment from what had previously been our favourite Charente maritime restaurant.
